Cellfactor: Psychokinetic Wars coming to PSN, XBLA in 2009

Dec 19th 2008 3:07PM (Joystiq)
That character's looking rather Nihei there. The background, unfortunately, does not. Yet another FPS-with-random-powers-thrown-in set in generic grubby sci-fi environment number 87.

Foxit takes on the eBook world with low(er) cost eSlick

CBR/CBZ are just renamed RAR and ZIP files. Just extract them to a folder, and you'll have a series of numbered images. I'd be very surprised if it can't view simple jpg or png files.

Child's Play surpasses $1 million goal

Dec 16th 2008 1:55PM (Joystiq)
I'm guessing Joystiq forgot the Rupee is the national currency of India. At the current exchange rate (sourced from Xe.com), 1 million US Dollars is about 48 million Rupees.

SRS Labs' iWOW adaptor for iPods changes the way we think about portable audio

Remember to apply the included snake oil to your ears before listening. Does anyone REALLY believe this 'audio enhancer' crap still?

Resident of Hyrule turns bank robber

Well, Link DID do a lot of breaking into peoples houses, smashing up their crockery, and stealing their money.

Super-size Three: PS3 can read Pioneer's 16-layer, 400GB Blu-ray Discs

Dec 3rd 2008 3:46PM (Joystiq)
The same, or lower. The per-layer density is the same as standard discs (this is limited by laser wavelength and drive mechanics, which won't change), just in more layers. Same, as reading one layer will be the same speed, slightly lower if content is positioned 'above' contiguous content, and assuming the layer switching time is negligible in the face of seek time.

QPAD rolls out new high-end gaming headset

I assume a DAC on a USB bus to avoid the line-noise you get from on-board sound chips. i.e. every laptop ever, and almost every desktop ever (sans the very few with a decent PCI sound card or external device). Even with a fairly cheap DAC, the improvement will be vast, especially with headphones with sensitive drivers (low impedance). Trying to use the built-in output from a macbook pro with IEDs is an exercise in unpleasantness.

They're the BOSE of the headphone world.

Apple's 24-inch LED Cinema Display gets unboxed, sure is glossy

Dec 2nd 2008 6:49AM (Engadget)
Didn't apple switch to TN panels for the last generation or two of Cinema Displays in order to keep costs down?

Windows 7 WARP system to allow for DirectX 10 CPU acceleration

Nov 28th 2008 1:18PM (Engadget)
"You only NEED all that crud if you insist on making your UI spin around the screen whilst fading out."
Uh, DirectX handles 2D acceleration too, you know. It doesn't appear in the framebuffer by magic.
