Alan Wake: several DLC episodes this year, second 'season' dependent on audience
Mar 15th 2010 5:04PM (Joystiq)As long as whats on the Disk is a complete package, I'm all good. I don't mind if they want to expand on that, I just don't like the idea of buying something incomplete then having to pay more to complete it.
Alan Wake: several DLC episodes this year, second 'season' dependent on audience
Mar 15th 2010 3:15PM (Joystiq)Here are the things in the article that lead me to that question:
"After the internally episodic thriller hits shelves on May 18, Remedy Entertainment will extend it with at least two episodes in 2010."
"Once the full game is complete and the team has a chance to gauge acceptance and feedback, Remedy Entertainment will shed some more light on its plans [Season 2]."
Which led me to believe that the "Initial release of the game + DLC episodes = The First Season".
Which in turn brought me to the question "You buy the full $60, then you need to buy more DLC just to finish the first "Season"?"

That sounds like a giant rip off...

Wrath 101: Emalon the Storm Watcher
Apr 20th 2009 1:19PM (WoW)Don't attempt unless your DPS has a majority of epics. You don't have to be super geared for 10 man, but you must be Raid geared. Most competent DPS in Heroic/Naxx epics should be able to pull 2.5-3k dps easily.
Try taking a healer that can Dual Spec dps, and try the first few attempts with 3 healers. This will give your healers a better idea of what to expect. If your DPS can't cut it, have that healer switch to dps. If people are dying to Chain Lightnings, use Deadly Boss Mods and /range.
Wrath 101: Emalon the Storm Watcher
Apr 20th 2009 1:10PM (WoW)We did it on our 6th attempt. 4 failed tries on wed as it was our first look at the fight, Then 2 attempts on Friday, the first attempt we died to a enrage explosion.
Our group consisted of 3 healers, 2 tanks, and 5 dps. We would kill the adds at about 8-9 stacks each time. On our first 4 fails we had 2 tanks, 2 healers, and 6 dps, but positioning was more of a problem for those attempts.
Strategy:
Off tank should pull initial aggro and Main tank can taunt Emalon off. Pull Emalon to the bottom of the stairs on the north side, Pull the adds to the bottom of the stairs on the south side. The distance between the Main tank and the Off tank should be under 40y to make use of Paladin's Beacon. The Tank Healer(s) can stand at the top-middle of the stairs, Raid Healer(s) should be in the middle of the room, Ranged DPS should fan around the Raid Healer(s), Melee DPS should stand between the adds and Emalon. Be mindful of your position from Emalon (20y) and your Allies (10y).
The tank can eat the Novas, Melee DPS should move over to the add area during Nova. Chain Lightning is your worst enemy. Never have more than 2 people stacked together, in 10 man this shouldn't even be an issue. First hit does around 6k, Second does 12k, Third usually kills people. He always casts two Chain Lightnings between enrages. Nova USUALLY comes after the Second Chain Lightning, so the melee should move over to the adds and stay there until an Enrage comes. Otherwise, just be prepared to move on command. The Offtank should be able to find the enraged mob pretty fast, and you can /assist [name], or for the DPS near the trash mobs you can TAB through until you see the buff. You have about 20 seconds to kill it, 2ish seconds per stack. Occasionally, the adds shock someone for 5k, pretty easy to heal through.

California law may exempt game programmers from receiving overtime pay [update]
Apr 6th 2009 7:11PM (Joystiq)Around 2000ish California instituted a law, that stated something along the lines of "for computer professionals to be considered Exempt (Meaning a position that does not have to pay extra for overtime worked) had to make the equivilant of $36+ for all hours worked during the year". This number topped out around $50/hour in 2006/2007. This means the employee's salary had to reflect he earned at least $50 for each hour worked. (Meaning 40hours a week had to be paid a salary above 104k, avg 60hours a week had to be paid a salary above 156k, etc. etc.) If someone was placed on salary at $160k a year, and worked an average of 70hores a week, then they were not declared exempt and now had a right to sue for wage compensation. So, all the computer professionals, from engineers to tech support, that were paid salary (no-overtime) and paid less than the appropriate amount per hour, now had reason to sue (check oracle overtime lawsuit)
In 2008, there was an appeal to the law that dropped the hourly wage back down to $36 an hour and capped it at 75k total for the year. This means if a Computer professional is not paid at least 75k a year, they cannot be classified as Exempt and are mandated overtime pay by law.
To put things in perspective, most exempt positions (non-overtime paying) do not require such strict salary requirements, for example, Managers at Movie Theaters may get paid the equiv of 40h x $12 a week, but are not paid overtime for hours worked above 40, and they often put it much more than 40.
As to the point made near the last line, that game dev's might want to move to Boston, Boston requires a much lower salary cap for computer professionals (somewhere along the lines of $455 a week, or 23k a year) to be declared exempt. It might be wise for companies to move out of state, but I don't think the people those companies employ would rather be paid less to work more.
