Mega64 and Tommy Tallarico present: Gamer Warz 2

May 3rd 2010 11:46PM (Joystiq)
To those who don't "get it": This and the original Gamer Warz videos are obviously meant to have extremely low production values. The fact that Tommy Tallarico is a big sound guy in gaming is used to make a running joke through both videos where they have incredibly poor sound mixing, overly epic orchestral soundtracks, and out of sync audio/video.

Amazon deal: Mad Catz Street Fighter IV Tournament FightStick for $99

I absolutely love my Hori stick, I get compliments on it all the time. Many complaints you hear about joysticks is due to most of the modern ones having a square gate on the joystick. Most Americans are used to playing arcade games with a octagonal gate, so square gates feel extremely awkward at first. It is incredibly easy to mod a higher end joystick to have a octagonal gate if you feel that you cannot adjust to a square one, and only costs about $5 or so. Personally, I prefer a square gate as it's easier to feel where the corners are, but most of my friends prefer a octagonal gate. It's all a matter of personal preference.

Also, if you're used to American bat-top joysticks it may take some getting used to on a ball/cherry top stick as you hold it differently, but Japanese sticks are usually higher quality and require much, much less force to trigger.

One thing that should be known about these sticks is that if you buy the PS3 version, there's a chance it won't be compatible with your PC. They only work with Intel motherboard chipsets, so if you have a VIA, Nvidia, or any other chipset, it won't work. The Xbox 360 model doesn't have this issue since it has to follow standards set in place by MS.

If you're looking for a PS3 stick that'll work with your PC, I recommend the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3-SA. It uses the same exact Sanwa buttons and stick that the Madcatz stick uses, and is compatible with PS3 and any PC USB chipset. It's $119.99 on Amazin at the moment, but I managed to pick it up for ~$95 with next-day shipping back in December.

@Jerk Face: These controllers use Sanwa buttons, the same that HORI's higher end sticks use.

Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West previewed, screenshotted

I'm usually not one to call games rip-offs of another, but this is just pathetic. Not only is it a class-based shooter, but the color styles and fonts are very similar to those used in TF2. Your 1943 argument doesn't work as that was developed by the same people who developed 1942, and this game is definitely NOT made by Valve.

What a blatant rip-off of TF2.

Another 24 songs confirmed for Guitar Hero 5, more features demo'd

Jul 22nd 2009 4:57PM (Joystiq)
What? The Tool songs in GH:WT were not used as a carrot to play through the rest of the game. The Tool setlist was available near the beginning of the Career. The real carrot for me was Pull Me Under, I played through that monstrosity of a game to get my Dream Theater fix only to realize that the song is the remixed version that appeared on their Greatest Hit album. (The remix makes the song sound like it was mixed in 2007 and and not 1992.)

Ask Engadget HD: Best media streaming set-top box?

Jul 19th 2009 12:15AM (Engadget HD)
I had to choose on a streamer about a month ago. I ended up buying a PS3 and running PS3 Media Server on my home server that is on 24/7 and I couldn't be happier. The server has a mid-range Core 2 Duo and 4GB of RAM and the PS3 plays back by transcoded 1080p Blu-Ray rips flawlessly with no stuttering or noticeable compression artifacts.

However, shortly after buying the PS3 I found out about the Popcorn Hour PCH-200, which seems to be the end all be all solution for a set top box, seeing as it has the ability to have a blu ray drive in it, will play basically any video format out there. The only thing I'd be weary of is the interface, as it seems that set top boxes from smaller, lesser known companies often have unbearable interfaces.

Those enemies in that screenshot really remind me of Half-Life 2's antlions.

Chinavision portable emulator plays it all

Apr 5th 2009 1:00PM (Joystiq)
To those of you who are drooling over this, there are other devices out there that will do exactly what this Chinavision thing does except way better. Check out the GP2X, it emulates everything that can and more, including CPS3.
