Can the PS3 be saved?
Jan 18th 2007 12:04PM (Joystiq)The same reasons you want to see the PS3 fail are the same reasons I want to see Nintendo fail. I feel betrayed by Nintendo, rather than give me cutting edge hardware I get regurgitated crap for the same old graphical experience I had on the gamecube. They give me gimmiky and poorly executed motion sensing controllers to try to decieve me into thinking that the nintendo is something new, while its games are still exactly the same.
The worst offence from Nintendo is their lying marketing dept. Nintendo claims that all creativity in video game creation is gone and they claim that their gimmiky remote will bring new creativity to the table. I call bullshit. Rather than give us hardware we deserve they give us second rate shit and shovel mini games infront of our faces and tell us 'this is new and unique' but its the same old crap they've been shoveling out since the N64 days.
It doesn't take a new controller to create great original gaming concepts and for Nintendo to say that just proves more to me that they are the most untrustworthy company out there. If Nintendo has its way we'll all be playing mini games with low production values and gameplay that consists of how long can you shake your arms around before they get tired.
I don't want to see a company thats providing cutting edge hardware get elimintaed, the one I want to see go is the company that sells us sub-standard hardware and tries to decieve everyone into thinking that if we just take gaming back 15 years discarding all of the lessons we learned about game design that we can sell more units for cheaper production costs. Blah, I dont want that...I want gaming to evolve not de-evolve the way Nintendo wants it. And all the Wiihuggers lap it up sighting how Nintendo is making a profit, well guess what as a real gamer that should be your last concern. Your first concern should be getting the hardware that allows the most potential to develope on.
Long Live Sony and MS...down with the evil Nintendo Corp!

Jan 17th 2007 12:50PM (Joystiq)The Nintendo Wii found a new breath of life with a new audience. After the initial hype of the dropping of the Wii wore of mid 2007, Nintendo announced they were leaving the hardware business except for the handheld division. At the final hour however an untargeted audience emerged to champion the system once again: blind, retarded, aging americans. It seems the system is uniquly set up to deliver and experience that demographic can enjoy.
Meanwhile in other news Sony has just sold their 110 millionth PS3, though that must be taken with a grain of salt as most people claim to have bought 3 replacement units after their original hardware dying on them.

Jan 16th 2007 10:05PM (Joystiq)Well put! And the answer is no, the lagginess will always be there, the innacuracies in deliberate movements will always be there. As motion sensing goes, its all innacurate garbage (the same goes for the SUXASSES controller).
The thing you need to really enjoy the Wii is either a totally low IQ (so you dont realize how innacurate the controller is) or an over exhuberance of enthusiasm (so that you dont realize the controls are complete innacurate shite).
Those are the target markets Nintendo is counting on.
On the otherhand the 'mouse pointer' capabilities while laggy themselves are actually quite useful and if I were designing for the Wii those would be my primary focus.

Jan 16th 2007 7:05PM (Joystiq)ummmm...really useful analysis there. I make ass gaskets for toilets and I think theres more potential for toilets with ass gaskets to see more use than the non ass-gasket variety.
Self Interest is the best place for an objective viewpoint.
