Square Enix trademark elicits confusion over Chrono Trigger DS

Jul 24th 2008 2:39PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I hope for a Ccross sequel too. The original was a fantastic rpg which was a victim of irate CT fanboys who just wanted the exact same game in a prettier package, and did not care how innovative and incredible CC was on its own (gamespot gave it a perfect score, btw).

Pity, we end up getting endless remakes (cue FFIV ds) instead of fresh new games, due to this kind of attitude.
Now, we get a remake of CT (the third), which is just the same damn game again. As much as I love CT, lets have something new, please.

Firefox 3 beta 5 released

Apr 2nd 2008 3:24PM (Download Squad)
@joshua: hmm, the back/forward buttons have always been there in all the betas, even on a mac. Their look has changed into the keyhole one, though

What mystifies me more is that I am unable to type my mixed case passwords correctly directly into the password fields for both of my gmail and yahoo accounts, despite repeated, slow tries. I cut/paste the password, and it worked perfectly. I wonder if its a new bug in b5..or something else is screwed up. Using b5 on a leo mac btw.

Microsoft issues XP and Vista updates without user consent

Sep 14th 2007 1:17AM (Download Squad)
While the update itself was to keep the windows update service up to date, it still has implications on privacy. I do not want ANY change to my system without my consent. They could atleast have a notification that the update will be installed.

What if microsoft next decides that an update to the drm engine is nessesary for windows update to function, so that they only service genuine windows?

Am i really to believe that they cannot push a notification that further updates are available, but only if i install an update to the update service? Most people who switch off automatic updates know what they are doing, and going behind their backs is not an option, ever.

White House loses email sent from RNC accounts

Apr 12th 2007 10:25PM (Download Squad)
Indeed, lets not make downloadsquad into one of those tech news reporting sites. I come here for cool downloads and technology related news directly pertaining to new softwares and features, not some political brouhaha.

What next? Game console articles, filling up this site with fanboys?

Draw Play - Today' time waster

Apr 11th 2007 4:17PM (Download Squad)
Excellent game.

A couple of tips: The game is dynamic, so draw as you go. You can always elevate the player by lifting the ground under him. You can also draw multiple lines to coat the spikes, and can even elevate the retry point by just elevating the place where he starts off from.

How tough is it to install Linux, really?

Mar 28th 2007 12:26PM (Download Squad)
The fact is, normal users dont want to touch the terminal. they dont want to mess around with dependencies and drivers. They want to just have a ready and running system.

I tried installing the latest ubuntu release, 6.10, on a friend's pc recently. the live cd booted, but the installation kept on failing. The error message generated was long, and the forums for that message had only the problems, and no solutions whatsoever, except for some mention of bugs somewhere.

If this is the case with ubuntu, a rather user friendly version of linux....

Yahoo! Mail Beta shortcuts revealed

Nov 30th 2006 6:26PM (Download Squad)
Seems to be quite a useful feature. Shortcuts always rock in any application, and this takes it a step closer to a desktop app.

Its a pity I have been unable to switch to the beta mail though, receiving a "Couldn't open mailbox" error whenever i tried to switch. Unfortunately, yahoo support hasent responded, and those one the web with similar problems, have no solutions.

Zune hacked for USB drive use

Nov 23rd 2006 3:09PM (Engadget)
actually, no, its for the OS. Its like the shiny royale theme shipped with windows media center edition (and later made downloadable), but with an orange and black color scheme and a zune wpper.

here is the downloadsquad link:

http://www.downloadsquad.com/2006/11/03/windows-xp-zune-theme/

Its a nice theme, though i prefer the original Royale.

Microsoft sets Office's ribbon UI not-quite-free

Nov 23rd 2006 2:38PM (Download Squad)
The ribbon takes some getting used to, but once you work with it for a while, it really grows on you. it becomes a chore to then use earlier versions of Word. Admittedly, newer word features like the new equations builder and the integrated word count are more helpful to me, but this is nice as well.

However, Microsoft has not, and probably cannot, patent UI, and those who want a feature similar to the ribbon would implement it nevertheless. This is probably more of a guideline, and an attempt to highlight this new innovative feature.
