Alan Wake sells 2 million units across Xbox 360, PC

Mar 13th 2012 1:32PM (Joystiq)
There's a lot a games that are pretty good, but simply come out at the wrong time. I think that happened here. Blur strikes me as another title that came out at the wrong time.

I always wondered though, why Alan Wake was not a pack-in game-- although maybe it was, and I missed it. Always thought the original Viva Pinata should have been a pack in game too.

@(Unverified) Actually you're correct, morality was featured in Ultima IV

RPGs never really went away, however they did evolve. I certainly remember Bioforge (which is often overlooked), but I think around that time, tastes were changing, and gamers and developers were gravitating towards 3D based FPS games and there was this whole multimedia explosion in the 90s with full motion video and quicktime events. There was also Windows 95 games that came on the scene. I do remember playing Wizardry back on the Apple II back in the 80s, which was a single person game, and was always curious why it just sort of disappeared after being ported to a couple of platforms. I also miss games like the Bard's Tale, Wasteland, and without a doubt the original Ultima series before it went 3D and isometric. Neverwinter Nights on AOL was fairly popular in the mid 90s, but like anything, people lost interest over time. Here's an obsure one for you... The Ruins of Cawdor on the Imagination Network :)

Yep, Gabe Newell is a billionaire

His net worth is PURE speculation, since Valve doesn't report earnings, being a private company. That being said, he was wealthy from working at Microsoft, which was then funneled into starting Valve. We know Valve has been successful, but the real cash cow is probably Steam.

My only comment about Valve is the one I've had for ages.. I would love to see another Team Fortress on the 360

Nintendo 3DS sales hit 4.5 million units in first year, outperforms original DS

Something is not right if they're still expected to report a loss. They're selling more portable systems than they ever have, but if they're on track for a loss, then either they're selling hardware at a loss, or they're not selling enough software-- which would seem odd. I wonder if something else is afoot.

Forza Horizon spun off by Playground Games

Hmm, first thing that came to mind with a PGR-like experience. (sigh) I miss the PGR series

Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor available June 19

It'll be interesting if they can pull off the Kinect intergration... I think a lot of eyes will be on this one. I'm hopeful it turns out well, because I love mech games.

See how the Vita's first-week sales stack up in this handy infographic

This is why Sony was touting world wide sales instead of regional sales. It's a bit of a mixed bag. If anything the data is not conclusively yet, because the first few weeks are sales to early adopters-- basically those that don't have to be sold on it. It'll be interesting to see how the Vita fares the next few months and during the Christmas holiday.

I really enjoyed Black Ops, so I'm looking forward to whatever sequel is made available.
