This show is pretty perfect. I was always a supporter of The Joystiq Podcast, but agreed that it had wilted and become stale. I am a huge supporter of the Joystiq Show and thought it was the best move Joystiq could make.
But this, this is perfect. My favorite section of the Joystiq Podcast ever was the Wii/DS Game name... game. I wished that there was a whole show like that back then, and it only took a few short years for it to come true.
Thank you guys, Thank you. (Also, I totally nailed the FMV section)
Something like 10-15% of people who play a Free-to-Play actually pay any money, and normally they don't spend that much. That amount of people is more than enough to keep a game up for many years.
That said, very few Free-to-Play games will force the player to buy anything in order to enjoy the game. Normally, you can experience the vast majority of the content without spending a dime, you just won't get there as quick if you did.
It's hard to argue with what you said, but I do find your ideals to be, not so much old, but retroactive. We are beginning to enter the era where free-to-play is the easiest way to make money. For any upstart, or even some proven, company or game it's very difficult to dodge piracy or poor sales.
While you would like to pay money for something good, and that is admirable, many would like to not pay money for just about anything.
My comment was a quote from an Email (or possibly a comment) that was sent to the Joystiq Podcast and read by Bob Ball. Chris Grant often replayed it for a giggle.
I tried to find the clip online, but I couldn't. It's quiet hilarious though.
