Sony to deliver NGP lecture at GDC

Feb 17th 2011 1:04PM (Joystiq)
@Evi1Genius

I'm really happy it has a touch screen And dual analog sticks- that way, it will also appeal to people who enjoy those simple/smartphone games.

Also, most important to me, everyone can finally have a decent typing input mechanism (no more one letter at a time/predictive text!)- this will make web browsing, or even PSN sign a more pleasant experience. Even the 3DS won't have that (I believe it's not multitouch?).

I Must Run! dashes onto PSN, jumps to Europe next week

Robot Unicorn is also a rip off of Canabalt, but it's pretty awesome- so why aren't either on the PSP/PS3 instead of only having This imitation offering? They'd be able to charge the standard $3 to $4 mark up that they don't do for iOS and Android devices, and they wouldn't have to worry about Apple's app-refund policy (not sure how the Android marketplace works with that).

PlayStation Mini Arcade Essentials gives us wicked deja vu

Dec 7th 2010 5:08PM (Joystiq)
@FriedConsole Then it's a good thing the PSP offers both types of experiences- I'm really glad developers made "console-lite" experiences for this system...otherwise, I'd play it as often as my DS (which is to say, "not that often").

Also, the 3DS seems to be heading toward "deeper" game experiences (MGS3D, the N64 remakes, the Resident Evil games, possibly Kid Icarus), so it looks like it's going to try to do what the PSP already does (albeit, with Ninty characters/stories, and with better graphics than the PSP).

And, as far as the 15 minute sessions go- as long as they design the portable games with that in mind (e.g., Peace Walker's missions, instead of MGS1's backtracking expeditions), then again, everyone should be happy. I think? I mean, I know I am.

Sony to announce 'new PSP product' when 'the timing is right,' VP says

Oct 30th 2010 11:20AM (Joystiq)
I hope the new productS they announce will be this PSPhone so they can enter that market (smartphone + gaming controls, sounds decent!), and that the PSP2 will come with a 3G connection (at least) from one of the cell companies (no monthly data plan, please), if at least just for PSN capabilities.

That way, the PSPhone will be a new smartphone variant (for those that want it), and the PSP2 will be the new console-like handheld, with access to the same apps without being a smartphone- it would be like an iPod Touch except Better (if they do the Kindle/e-reader upfront data-included price)! Give me access to apps on the PSP2, so I can have my phone just be a phone- I don't want to drain the battery of the device I use to stay in contact with everyone all the time.

Prinny 2: Dawn of panties design contest, dood!

Oct 22nd 2010 11:29AM (Joystiq)
Wow, not sure why everyone has their panties in a twist- this game is going to be awesome (especially with the alternate asagi levels), and is goofy absurdity. Can't wait for this to be released...hopefully well before any psp2 announcements.

The 3rd Birthday preview: A reason to cry

So... is the camera the d-pad, or the face buttons? Because "face-buttons as camera" seems to be the best solution for the PSP, and it works Really Really well.

Capcom not planning to launch 3DS games in this fiscal year

Aug 3rd 2010 11:48AM (Joystiq)
MGS3D will be out "probably in the first year", SSFIV and RE not out by 03/2011...are there going to be Any launch games for the 3DS? (I'm guessing we'll find out by 09/29)

PSN Summer Sale: get PixelJunk Shooter, GTA Chinatown Wars, and more cheap

Aug 2nd 2010 7:20PM (Joystiq)
@Courtney I think I bought Monsters at the "full price" of $5- you should Absolutely buy the game at $2.50. It's extremely fun, there are trophies (in game, obviously) to collect, and the gameplay And presentation are just incredibly good- Especially for a mini.

Does anyone know if the Tetris mini has multiplayer ad-hoc? It would be weird if seemingly every version of Tetris on DS has, at least, that, while the PSP does not.

Amazon discounts Crystal Bearers, other Square Enix oddities

Wish the discount applied to the PSN-PSP version, but good stuff!

EyePet PSP and Invizimals may not support PSP Go in North America

Jul 8th 2010 11:19AM (Joystiq)
I hate that I'm commenting again on this but, if you go to the blog-link, you'll see this exchange:

Sid is there any work around or adapter for the camera for the PSPgo because both invisimals and Eyepet for PSP look great and I would like to get them but I purchased the White PSPgo on launch day and does that mean I’m SOL?

Sid Shuman | July 3rd, 2010 at 2:19 pm
No workaround that I know — the camera was designed for the pre-go models only. Maybe you can borrow a friend’s?

..."Maybe you can borrow a friend's"? No! That is the exact opposite of what one should need to do when they purchase your products! Wasn't there a commercial campaign about "get your own" PSP? I've never been this upset about a gaming device.
