Wii: the most "violent" console of them all?
Jan 11th 2007 4:39PM (Joystiq)I hear you, but what most people are referring to when using the phrase "tacked-on controls" is whether or not (and how well) the controls are integrated into the gameplay.
Translation is as follows: is this a new way to play and a valid reason to choose the Wii version of the game, or is it simply a gimmick?
In my opinion, a crucial ingredient to a good game is whether or not the game was built around the controls. Aside from Final Fantasy games, most critically acclaimed games are heavily based on how they are controlled. Halo, Prince of Persia, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario..
Games with "tacked-on" controls tend to ignore this, and it's definately noticeable.

Jan 10th 2007 12:08AM (Joystiq)Get bitchy about it. "Wee-wee" would be the correct slang, and it does conjure thoughts of penises to may people. Mainly small children.
I can only assume that "wee-wee" as a term for a phallus stems from "wiener", just as "pee-pee" used in the same way stems from "penis".
And there you have it. Despite the fact that your ancestors did speak the language before the United States was ever a country, you are not the ultimate masters of the language and the universe. Thank you.
Why we can't wait for iPhone gaming
Jan 9th 2007 6:19PM (Joystiq)Then I thought about it. Ten times less storage space than my iPod -- though the all-in-one factor would almost make up for that. Also, 600 dollars is a LOT of cash.
I only bought the RAZR because I accidentally ran my LG through the wash, and it was only a hundred bucks to upgrade. The iPod I paid 65 dollars for after factoring in a total of about 275 dollars in Christmas money from my parents and uncle. So in reality those purchases weren't all that extravagant.
Throw in the fact that I use Verizon (because Cingular really does suck) and that I'm actively trying to scrape together enough cash for an Xbox 360 and a 23" HDTV (definately my first priority as one of the pathetic victims of the expensive hobby known as gaming), and this is definately out of the question.
Last, but cerainly not least.. can you imagine the battery life on this thing? Especially considering Apple's reputation for that. Yeah. I think I'll definately have to pass until the next version or two.
Mayo Clinic prescribes active games
Jan 7th 2007 12:10AM (Joystiq)The calories burned waving your arm to operate the Wii or "dancing" on a DDR pad are not enough to justify the fact that one is inside playing video games as opposed to engaging in ACTUAL physical activity.
I hate to burst the bubbles of exergaming advocates, but playing chess, yelling, and banging your head against the wall are all things that also actively burn calories. Please, no one full yourselves into thinking that playing Wii Sports is a substitute for exercise. Not even close.

Best Buy selling hoarded PS3s tomorrow morning
Dec 31st 2006 4:28AM (Joystiq)I'm pretty sure that probably didn't happen. I think you just made up a story as an aid to bash the PS3.
Even if it did. Why would you condemn a cashier for doing his job?

Dec 22nd 2006 2:08AM (Joystiq)"I can't wait till beautifully rendered hair makes games funner to play."
Oh, give it a rest. We get it. You're content with pong. Fine. A lot of gamers (including myself) appreciate graphical details (such as realistic hair). You can pretend it doesn't affect the fun factor of a game all you want, but don't criticize a developer for at least trying to creat a more engrossing experience just because you feel that certain details are unnecessary.
I suppose you would have been perfectly satisfied if Twilight Princess had 2D NES graphics, right? This whole "graphics don't matter" trend is really starting to get on my nerves.
Heightened Rumor: Metal Gear Solid 4 not a PS3 exclusive
Dec 18th 2006 2:21AM (Joystiq)a.) A lot of people doubted it when they first started hearing that Assassin's Creed would be making its way onto the 360.
b.) If this is true, it gives me one less reason to cough up 600 bucks.
