Sony wants NGP hardware to be profitable and affordable

Jan 27th 2011 1:08PM (Joystiq)
@TraceurRyuk Prepping for LBP2

Exactly. I really don't want to pay as much for the handheld as I do for the big console. Meh.

Dear Apple: It's (past) time to let us customize our alert tones

Jan 9th 2011 5:31PM (TUAW.com)
THIS.

I completely agree. This is basically the reason I jailbroke my phone; I don't want to use tri-tone and the mail noise is way to quiet.

Also, I want to see the exact times for every SMS in a conversation, not just when the conversation started!

Yea, I can get Office11 for $50 with tax at my university computer store. Education discounts FTW!

Mac OS X 10.6.6 seeded while 10.6.5 still awaiting release

Nov 9th 2010 2:53PM (TUAW.com)
I think what they mean by that is instead of 10.6.5 bugs being fixed in 10.6.6, it means we have to wait for 10.6.7 for the fix (assuming 10.6.6 is still very small and preps for the App Store). Though, if they're pushing 10.6.6 out so soon, maybe 10.6.7 will come around when 10.6.6 normally would have, so the wait isn't that much longer. We'll see, I guess.

iOS 4.2 Gold Master release seeded to developers

Nov 2nd 2010 12:06AM (TUAW.com)
If the dev team releases the SHAtter exploit for 4.2, it will be.

They'll probably take a few days to make sure everything works right, but if they're going to do it it'll be really soon.

IPad is affecting the hard drive industry, but MacBook Air could deal a fatal blow

Oct 21st 2010 1:25PM (TUAW.com)
We still need the price of flash to come down before it poses a legitimate threat to hard drives. Right now, if you want a lot of storage for cheap, a hard drive is the way to go.

I think once the price/GB gets close to that of hard drives, solid-state flash will definitely be a threat to hard drives. But we're a long way from that.

TUAW review and giveaway: OtterBox Defender case for iPhone 4

Jul 28th 2010 2:49AM (TUAW.com)
I'd love to see a maize and blue case for the University of Michigan.

Actually, university colors in general would be neat.

Mac Pro refresh bumps up the high end: these go to 12 cores

If I had the money to just throw around, the first thing I would do is buy a totally maxed-out Mac Pro.

Damn those are sweet machines...

AT&T deploying software fix for slow upload speeds over next few weeks

Jul 27th 2010 8:29AM (Engadget)
@rmbrown09 Yea...You're on wifi there, bud.

Still, I'd kill to have 8Mbps upload AND download. I only have 8 up and 1 down...

Develop: How is digital distribution changing the games you play?

Jul 19th 2010 7:54AM (Joystiq)
@sigma8 Except that Gabe Newell has stated that if something were to happen to Valve and they had to shut down, they'd issue a patch for offline, no-server-required play.

They've tested this internally to make sure it works in the event that they HAVE to do a rapid shutdown so gamers aren't waiting to play the games they bought.
