May 4th 2006 4:53AM (Joystiq)Developer: PS3, 360 graphics "impossible to tell apart"
May 4th 2006 4:50AM (Joystiq)That is the exact argument fans of the original Xbox made when comparing their preferred console to the PS2. Now they've completely reversed their position. The only advantages the 360 has, that I can see, is Xbox Live and being released a year earlier. That said, it is obviously taking MS at least a year to make a console that actually works (over a year, considering that the new, superior CPU won't be released until March of '07). I really hope the PS3 (or the Wii, for that matter) isn't as much a piece of garbage as the 360 has so far turned out to be. The Xbox was a good console. So far, the 360 is not. This is PS3's to win, unless they mess up as badly as Microsoft has.
Joystiq Poll: Next console market share
May 4th 2006 4:09AM (Joystiq)"I really don't think this is fair for MS. We need to be careful and not to directly associate the divisions that make Windows with the divisions involved with the XBox. I personally think that it is rather obvious that the Xbox is much more community-centric than Windows."
Sloopydrew responds:
You put too much faith in this technological terror MS has created. The company has been sued how many times for anti-trust issues, and lost?
Personally, I don't care what division has been brought to court and found guilty -- they're all MS to me. This is how Goliath does business.
They enter the OS field, they pull this. They enter the browser field, they pull this. And, if their console starts to shine, they will pull it again (as they are already starting to do).
A wolf in sheep's clothing is still a wolf. MS, in my opinion, is disguising itself as a wolf, until it is the frontrunner (I pray to God that never happens) in the console war.
Yes, MS appears much more "community-centric" than Windows. I agree with you there. But they're already, with the 360, proving that they're just the same old Microsoft. I was a big fan of the Xbox. But the 360 knocked me back to reality.
The company entering the console industry was not a good thing, in my opinion. They are monopolistic, and they have the cash to essentially stop at nothing until the win.
And yes, you are right, Sony is really running a nasty operation lately, as well. Nintendo's doing a good job, but I haven't forgotten what happened back when they were in the top spot.
Still, MS is a scary company. Scarier than Nintendo and Sony combined. The 360 is merely a gateway to Media Center and Vista. PS3 may turn out to be nothing more than a gateway to blu-ray. Who knows?
All I am sure of is that MS, as long as Bill Gates has anything to do with it (even the man's Liberal father, Bill Gates Sr., is frightened over Bill's Conservative business practices), is a scary company.
Does that mean I'll dump all chances of being a 360 gamer? No. Does it mean I should? Probably. But I'm a hypocrite -- as are we all -- and I go where the games are.
If MS buys up enough companies and has enough exclusive titles, I will support their console. All it would take would be another Oddworld exclusive, or Resident Evil 5. But I would hate myself in the morning.
