When I saw this footage I thought it was a parody of video game trailers from the '90s. I've never used this term before (but almost always find it hilarious when it is used): "epic fail".
I agree, wholeheartedly. I post on a rare occasion. I actually find the "internet-beefs" highly amusing and entertaining.
I don't see anything wrong with rampant fanboy(ism). That people have such a passion for their console of choice, to me, speaks volumes on the level of dedication to the hobby of gaming.
Whilst I tend to resist labeling myself; I do tend to veer towards being something of a Sony fanboy every now and then; and tend to favor comments that place PS3 in a positive light. What's the big deal? It's just video games....
I totally agree. The FPS multi-player experience would be a whole lot more enjoyable if people actually played as a team. You either get the 'lone soldier' gung-ho types who just want to run and gun and not communicate on their mics, or you get the insanely dedicated clan members who take the game and the stats (like the odious kill/death ratio) entirely too seriously, and who end up trashing their own teammates who are less than stellar (such as myself).
I get the former a lot in MW2, and I got the latter a lot in SOCOM (which ruined the experience for me). I liken myself to being in the middle of the spectrum. I find engaging in teamwork thoroughly enjoyable (treasure hunt in Uncharted 2 is a great example of this), but I don't take any game so seriously that I am ready to narc an inferior teammate when they mess up.
I remember my first time with EGM being the Sonic 2 cover. I bought it the day after I graduated the 6th grade...I subscribed to it that day, and had been a loyal reader/subscriber up until their 'transient' demise. And now...I'm stuck with those dreadful Maxim magazines. No amount of soft-core porn can compensate for the oft-vacuous content it possesses.
But I will always cherish my memories of EGM, as I eagerly anticipated the next issue to come in the mail. I think that medium (in terms of gaming news) is a bit antiquated now, I find gaming sites like this (and IGN, among others) to be more accessible at this point.
So, unless they extend or convert my remaining subscription back to EGM, I highly doubt that I'd re-enlist.
I balked initially at the thought of paying for a 'premium' PSN subscription, but if Sony offered all of that additional content/access, I would strongly consider...
