GDC 07: Miyamoto keynote video

Mar 9th 2007 8:14PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Great speech. I posted some of my thoughts on it on the other articles, "GDC 07: Miyamoto keynote reveals design inspiration (http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2007/03/08/gdc-07-miyamoto-keynote-megaton/#comments)" was one of articles.

GDC 07: Miyamoto keynote reveals design inspiration

Personally his keynote was one of the best keynotes I've heard. GDC is a developers conference, the keynote was directed to developers. He touches on a lot of points that I feel are most essential to gaming, about having that human touch, about when it comes down to it, developing a game with the core idea of the players emotion in mind at all times. It was a message I feel was long overdue, and hope that all developers take it to heart. That message is bigger than just any technical news that may be really nice to find out right now but as time passes it becomes old news. This keynote is something that will resonate at least to developers for generations to come. I don't know what I was expecting from his keynote but as I continued to watch and by the end I realized that at least to me the keynote was very important. It also gave me a deeper understanding about how games are developed at Nintendo. They definitely have have a their own philosophy towards the industry, it's something they believe and hold true to. It definitely isn't violent games, so they let other developers who want to make violent games go that route. So right now they have a strong concept and grasp of their company's ideals and do the best they can with that, and so should the developers at other company's that may be doing the violent games, or the sports games and so on. It made me realize that all this "console war" stuff about, who's gonna win who's not gonna succeed, is all really petty. There are millions of people out there who want different things. There's enough room for everyone to create and enjoy those specific things. All I can say is that I can really respect Miyamoto for bringing something positive to the table, and his care for the people who matter most, the people who play his games.

Paquiau is looking good, he's gonna eat em up!

How did you blow your NES cartridge?

Oct 29th 2006 2:46AM (Joystiq)
My technique was to cover the catridge with my shirt where I would blow into it, usually from left to right. No reason for the left to right, just instinctive I guess. Then I'd stick the cartridge in to give it just enough clearance for it to be able to be pressed down.

AiLive Live Motion in action

boring? the video wasn't meant to entertain, it was a demonstration geared towards developers to show off it's functionality. it's pretty exciting to see something like this. the wii was meant to be easy to develop for and one of the hardest part of developing for the wii, being able to program the controls, has been made a whole lot easier. i just hope ailive move does that well. hopefully this will aid in getting developers to stay with the wii and to get more developers on board.

PSA: Avoid this GameCrazy training video

Aug 8th 2006 1:57AM (Joystiq)
Wow, this is a weird coincidence that I randomly showed this video to some friends while at work t'day, and now it's posted on Joystiq. It's true though that this is pretty much how most retail training videos are like. Unfortunately most if not all major game stores push their employees into using these sales tactics. From my experience Game Crazy is probably the least worst of them all (not just saying this because i'm an employee). The company actually encourages people to hang out and play games in the store. Fenris is right that all retail store experiences vary depending on the employees of that particular store. To be honest I would rather have a video like this than a boring training vid, at least we could make fun of this video.
