I own that same Tetris machine. But I wish I had the Joust too. It's nice to see there is still an arcade with some classics and not all redemption games.
I am getting a Wii, but I also have an Xbox 360 now. But to me my game system has nothing to do with the films that I watch. I would never watch a DVD (or HD-DVD or Blue-Ray) on a game console. I've seen too many worn out/burnt out consoles. If I'm going to burn out a DVD player, it will be a $30 Trutech one from Walmart. Also, I personally think the next gen for films should be a disc-less media, and more of a hard drive like an iPod.
(I just did something very weird and my previous comment went from #1 to #63. So some things aren't going to make much sense)
I choose DVD. I don't feel like rebuying my entire DVD collection in the next few years. Slightly better audio/video quality doesn't do anything for me. I'd rather see a huge push for better stories, characters, and concepts... if that makes any sense.
They have a Guitar Hero demo at my Wal-mart. How is that any different? You need to swing it upwards to get your bonus going and a Guitar Controller is a bit more dangerous than a Wii-mote.
I hate all of the new formats. By the time I get my DVD collection to where I want it to be, they'll change the standard format. Say Series 1 of a specific show just came out on DVD and the show goes for 6 seasons. And by Season 5 they just switch formats on me and I'll have to rebuy 1-4 on the new format, just to be able to watch them all. I see the point of switching from VHS to DVD. But not from DVD to a slightly better DVD.
I'm not too into the idea of games on the iPod. I don't want to risk anything by constantly pushing the buttons. They already have enough longevity issues. I have no problem carrying my DS as well and playing much much better games.
I want to know why the graphics on this game even matter to anybody? You're swinging a stick at a ball. It's a fun light hearted introduction to the system presented in a simple style. It's not MLB Super-Realistic Baseball. Those types of games will come, and they can peacefully coexist with games like this.
I think this is a bad move for two reasons. Nintendo is trying so hard for the non-gamer and they want this to be something used every day by every member of the family. By having a DVD function included it would defitely help those two issues (which are so important to Nintendo).
I personally would not use my Wii to play DVDs. I've killed so many DVD players that I wouldn't take the chance. It would have been a nice addition, but it isn't important me. I do think it is important to that demographic that Nintendo is reaching towards. Moms and Dads will compare it to the other systems and think "Well one is also a DVD player, I should get that one". A lot of parents dont realize you can get a DVD player for $30 at Wal-mart, and a lot of others won't want to deal with the extra cables.
