Peter Dille: Move will attract hardcore gamers with precision

Apr 2nd 2010 11:15PM (Joystiq)
It's not going to be how precise it'll make games, it'll be the freaking games themselves.

The Best of Big Download: December 7 - 13

I was surprised when Macs got the Radeon 4870. They finally got a good card. Even though the Radeon 5000 series has been released, it's still relevant.

Unfortunately for Apple, Microsoft still has the corner on computer gaming for a variety of reasons. PCs are the best choice for indie game development where you can get the most horsepower out of the system without having to get permission from the machine maker.

EA's Riccitiello: Nintendo 'learning' how to support third parties

Dec 12th 2009 1:52AM (Joystiq)
I bet it has to do with the SDK.

Microsoft's 360 SDK has been said to be really nice and it has a lot of libraries to help compensate for some of the console's problems. Sony is trying to catch up to Microsoft in this aspect, and multiplat developers have said that the Playstation dev kits have been. The Wii has the easiest CPU to code on, a single-core out-of-order chip.

For motion controls, the third party winner won't be because of technological superiority. It'll be which one the third parties are able to use the best.

I got a monitor from newegg, but I know a few people that got 1080p monitors from Staples online very easily. ($90 for 22" / $140 for 23")

Mega Man goes to 8-bit Hell in Doom 2 mod [update]

Wow. At first I couldn't believe that people are making Doom 2 mods, but then again you see Mario ROM hacks a lot.

Okamiden trailer is in desperate need of a cheek pinching

Okami for the Wii is pretty good, although it could definitely use Motion+. The hardest thing I found to do was drawing a straight line, which actually got aggravating at times.

Miyamoto thinks his college degree wouldn't get him a job at Nintendo today

Nov 24th 2009 3:58PM (Joystiq)
Actually, a comp sci degree has applications outside the gaming industry, which is one reason why a lot of programmers in the industry recommend that one over a lot of others. If you get a game design degree, you risk being locked only into one industry

I agree with him. When people at companies say what degrees you need, they usually say an art degree or one in Computer Science. Miyamoto I think had one in industrial engineering.

As far as I know, Miyamoto wasn't a game maker, but an industrial designer. My guess is industrial desgin
