Battlefield Heroes beta rolling back into action

Jan 23rd 2009 2:22PM (Joystiq)
Actually it wasn't quite. The look and feel was far more "cartoony" than TF2, and the 3rd person only view really grated on me. I realize if you're playing in 1st person view you can't see how cute all those wacky clothing choices you made look, particularly the pegleg and all, but I'll happily trade that for having no "me" size hole in my field of vision.

Tecmo president resigns for 'personal reasons'

Aug 20th 2008 6:48PM (Joystiq)
It's also possible the board might have decided that Itagaki is the company's golden goose and that cleaning house might get him to come back. Something similar happened at a software company I worked at in the 90s. In that case, big company bought smaller company (of which I was a part), big company execs liked playing politics, big company employees liked jacking around doing nothing, and the smaller company software app (which was to be integrated into the larger offerings on Big Iron by the bigger company but wasn't... see statement where big company employees liked not working) was the only thing bringing cash in. After about a year and a half, the BC execs pushed out the small company's upper people. Unfortunately for the BC execs, they did this around the time the Board of Directors was meeting, and the Board looked at it closely. Then summoned said execs to a meeting where they said essentially "so the only part of this company that's making money the last year or so is X and you just got rid of everyone involved there? You're all fired." And then the board brought back the small company people to run the whole place. It may be that Tecmo's board may have similar ideas.

DS Daily: And then the DS accidentally fell right under my shoe.

Advance Wars DS did have a few INCREDIBLY challenging levels, but I went all the way through, and just a couple of months ago beat it again on Hard this time.
Trauma Center is very difficult indeed. And maybe I was doing something wrong, but I never could get the hang of Meteos, of all things. Ended up selling it.

Nintendo responds to Wii-strap lawsuit

Dec 21st 2006 5:11AM (Joystiq)
You all realize of course that anyone who joins this lawsuit will maybe get $2 as their "share" of the award in the incredibly unlikely event they actually win, right? Nobody's going to get their TV's replaced, or their Wiimotes replaced. The only "winners" in this will be the law firm who initiated the suit as they take their fee on behalf of all the plaintiffs.

PS2 controller on Xbox 360, keyboard n' mouse too

Dec 19th 2006 10:37PM (Joystiq)
There was indeed a device like this for the Xbox, I bought one. Very disappointed with it overall. Not responsive at all with a mouse, to the point of having to drag the mouse the length of a coffee table to do a 360 spin in Halo. It worked better with a trackball, but it needed the ability to adjust sensitivity properly.
If this one works a lot better than the old one, maybe I'll pick one up and try it out on a friend's 360 to see if I like it. Right now I don't do FPS console games, just can't get used to the analog stick setup. Red Steel and COD3 on the Wii are a step in the right direction for me though, but could be better, as it still acts more like an analog stick than a mouse.

Another suit over GTA -- with good punchline

This whole hot coffee thing is ridiculous. As a litmus test of whether or not it's "a part of the game", here is what I propose they do in court. Judge sends a bailiff out to a computer store to get a laptop, and another bailiff out to a game store to get a copy of the game. This way, neither the plaintiff or the defendant are bringing the items into court. Then, the judge instructs the plaintiff to bring as many printed instruction sheets and howtos as they need, *but no additional software or hacks*, and show the judge how one gets this "hot coffee" thing going. If they can't, case dismissed with prejudice.

PSA: Best Buy selling Wii component, s-video cables

Dec 11th 2006 9:09PM (Joystiq)
I am weak. I saw the $50 cables in Future Shop on Sunday and thought about it for about 15 minutes while I did shopping for other peoples' presents, then was drawn back to the display and picked them up. I know I spent probably $20 more than I should have to if I waited, but the moment I powered up the Wii with component input on my projector instead of the composite cable made it all worth it. Like night and day different. Perhaps on a TV the difference won't be as pronounced, but on my projector the colors were no longer washed out, and the brightness was spot on. Very pleased with the display now. And all the old Gamecube games get upscaled too! Even the ones that aren't marked as progressive scan compatible. That was a surprise to me..

Nintendo's E3 booth tour

@30 - Jon, I have a projector as well, and I doubt it's going to be an issue. If you've got a retracting projection screen, why not just attach it to the bottom bar of the screen? You may have to figure out something for it come retraction time, but it shoudn't be a showstopper. Maybe use a couple of strips of velcro and just put it on as needed? In my case my projection screen's down all the time so I was planning on just double-sided taping it to the bar on the bottom of the screen.

The story of Xbox

Dec 22nd 2005 1:34PM (Joystiq)
Suddenly, Seamus wanted to jump out of his seat. Microsoft could, if it chose, make a console that would kill the PlayStation 2.

So, er, why didn't they?
