The fact of the matter is that more people have WiFi connections (either of their own or that they steal) than they do wired ethernet connections running to the entertainment center. I honestly would never bother running 50 ft of cable from my router to my TV. It's a PITA. This is the same story for most people who simply don't have pre-wired ethernet. WiFi provides plenty of bandwidth for gaming and is more convenient than expensive, so it's a good compromise.
By "basically a GameCube" that means a PowerPC CPU and an ATI GPU, with full backwards compatibility. It doesn't have anything to do with power... just architecture.
The tour is a great marketing move. Tons of people will get to play the Wii well in advance (when will we see PS3 demo units?) and there will be real first-hand reviews all over the Myspace/blog world. I'll be looking forward to hearing about it.
Where in that quote does Reggie even hint that they are doing something new or unprecedented? This story is absolutely pathetic newsmongering where there is no story at all.
When will people stop being such unbelievable sluts, grow up, and be responsible? Why must things like "safe sex games" be comissioned in the first place? College students are in a sad, sad state. I know lots of guys will jump to the defence of college age kids everywhere by saying "they're just experiencing life!" But really, guys are horny bastards and girls are being taken advantage of left and right. The girls don't even realize the value of what they're trading for a few hours (if that) of shallow drunken attention.
How is this game supposed to make ANYBODY'S life any better? Seriously? A safe sex game will not make a lick of a difference in these kids' lives. It's not about AIDS, or herpes, or whatever bug-o-the-month is going around the dorms... it's about the fact that their emotional lives and self respect are being torn asunder while sexuality is being cheapened and perverted more and more.
My family is incapable of turning off the PS2, which they use as a DVD player. For that matter they don't really turn off anything except for the TV. I wake up in the morning and go out to the living room to find the PS2 still on and the satellite tuner still on. Sometimes they will leave the TV on if they manage to turn the PS2 off because the screen is black, and they figure "close enough." My dad will leave the stereo on with the volume turned down all night long.
What's the moral of this? Well, they're British... so I can say that this story's numbers are probably totally accurate.
