Sony claims George 'Geohot' Hotz is avoiding trial in South America

1) The only reason they are collecting data is for marketing, its nothing bad. They are just trying to collect data to see what people are interested in, what they buy, ect so they can stay on top of the game and impose their own marketing strategies. The only thing that should bother everyone is that your credit card data is being sent over the internet unencrypted in a txt file of all things.

2) This major developer of Linux for the PS3s house was raided.

But i dont expect you to accept any of this again, you just an angry teen or something that's rejecting being informed. i mean ive show you facts all day and you constantly reject them from credible sources, just a sony fanboy at heart. which is ok. i enjoy all my systems too. but this discussion is just to much effort, preaching to the unreachable.

Can't get more factual than email FROM Sony and hackers IRC chat logs...They dont release their names for a reason, don't want to get sued by Sony by revealing what Sony is actually doing with your personal information. And Sony raids peoples houses but i bet you don't want to believe that either...

Im not saying there is a conspiracy all I am say is that they are monitoring you regardless of what you think. You can deny it all you want but here's facts and sources unlike the non-factual responses you've been saying all night.

Im just trying to inform people, sony also has your credit cards sent back to the via an unencrypted text file from your ps3 as well as what attached devices you use.

So take it as you want, but truth is the truth. Live in denial all you want.

Terrible analogy, it is ILLEGAL to break into a bank cuz the bank itself isn’t your PROPETY, it’s not illegal to hack or modify anything you own in your own HOME. Here's a better analogy for you.

Geohot is like a gun shop selling guns to people, again perfectly LEGAL to sell guns (his firmware patch) its just some people are bad and take advantage and kill people (pirate games). Understand?

As for the rest of your statement it doesn’t make any sense at all, your just proving what I’ve been saying in the entire thread, it’s your own property and u can do what you want w it. He created that hack for people to pave the way for users to be able to use Linux of their PS3's again, like Sony ADVERTISTED it would do. Then they took that feature away, just like they've shitified the rest of their consoles from the launch models. The loss of ps1/ps2 compatibility, loss of multimedia card slots, loss of usb slots, loss of the ability to install packages, and a big recent loss from firmware 3.60, you can’t upgrade your hard drive because 3.60 FW doesn’t let you access the recovery menu. Sony has lost my support and TONS of other peoples (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/28/ps3-firmware-v3-21-update/) and that thread was closed over a YEAR ago and has a TON of comments, more than any other thread on their website. And this is coming from someone’s who has invested in all their consoles. I’m not saying piracy is ok, it’s not. What one person does creates a bad wrap for everyone else and it wasn’t Geohot.

Maybe you're to young to understand this but consumers use common sense, that’s why so many people are upset about this issues. Try other forums besides joystiq, or IGN, or gamefaqs and try real forums that are set up for people who actually buy products with their own hard earned money, again that OFFICAL BLOG on PlayStation’s own website will help you understand. This isn’t about piracy it’s about Sony controlling the products you own. Someday this will affect you if you let it go on and on. Such as "cloud saves" thats new to OFW 3.60. Great feature, but its just a tool to monitor what your doing and playing on your own product. Same thing with their new TVs and Bluray players, they communicate with each other via HDMI and when u access the internet with the TVs or Bluray players they know what you have been watching. And possibly coming soon, serial numbers on each individual bluray disc (games and movies). So this is more than just you and of course you wont see the effects of it now.

Tell me how exactly geohot broke the law then? His patch that he released for the official firmware didn't enable piracy or cheats, just home-brew. Sony is pursuing the wrong person, they should be after people uploading their games to P2P servers. They are just trying to scare consumers which is pathetic.

@eat it

I agree cheating is terrible in online games and people stealing credit card info is even worse, but Sony should tighten their security, simple as that. Ultimately the item that someone buys is theirs and they can do whatever they want with it.
