Xbox 360 isn't actually broken, just misbehaving

Nov 29th 2006 3:33PM (Joystiq)
The term for this type of repair is called a Technical Tap. It goes back decades when vacuum tubes and other analog components would losen up and people would have to hit the device to get it work properly.

Cold solder joints and lose connectors are a big cause this problem, and this is probably what the Xbox 360 in the video is experiencing.

US PSone download details emerging

Nov 22nd 2006 10:32AM (Joystiq Playstation)
What are the chances there will be a solution for us Mac users who don't have a Windows PC or a PS3, but DO have a PSP and want to play these older games?

The pricepoint seems reasonable, and the file size is not too bad. It will definitely move some memory sticks.

Full-priced F.E.A.R. port is no treat

Oct 25th 2006 12:23PM (Joystiq)
While I enjoyed the demo of FEAR(and like the idea of a survival horror/FPS hybrid), Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas are a much better investment of $60.

I'll pick this one up when it hits $30.

Europe's PS3 delay in quotes

Sep 7th 2006 5:17PM (Joystiq)
If Sony was at all concerned about gaming, they would not used the PS3 as the trojan horse for Blu-Ray and none of this would be happening.

It's their own fault for forcing yet another unwanted media format on consumers and doing so with their top selling product line proves this.

Xbox Live Arcade Stick priced at $50, includes games

Aug 18th 2006 9:46AM (Joystiq)
I've owned various Mad Catz products in the past, and while not as high quality as first party or even Logitech products, they are decent enough. Bundled with some Arcade titles and this is a good value. A points card makes more sense, but the bundled games are no doubt a marketing tool and not just random titles thrown in.

However, if Microsoft announcing a similar product I'll have to pass on this one.

Midway decries limp Xbox support [update1]

Aug 4th 2006 11:29AM (Joystiq)
I'm a little disappointed by Microsoft totally abandoning the first gen console, but aside from Sony, most console manufacturers have done the same.

What really pisses me off though is the fact that newly released Xbox games are not Xbox 360 compatable. If new titles like Pain Killer Hell Wars and other new Xbox releases were 360 compatable, developers would lose less money on first gen Xbox titles this late in the console's lifecycle.

Still no Infrastructure mode for multiplayer games?

Joystiq interviews Sony PSP's John Koller

Jul 26th 2006 10:19AM (Joystiq)
Typical face-man replies to every question asked.

Sony is happy with PSP sales. UMD is still going strong. Nintendo DS is not a threat - they cater to children. PSP owners want to connect the PSP to the PS3 and use the PSP as a camera.

Pure bullshit.

Rumor: Hillary Clinton preps for video game tax

Jul 24th 2006 4:27PM (Joystiq)
I really don't see this happening. A tax on games would eventually mean a tax on all software, which there already is a sales tax for. Why would we need another tax added on?

Sony reveals some PSP news at Comic-Con

Jul 24th 2006 9:54AM (Joystiq)
While I'm glad to see the PSP is getting video download via podcast, I'm waiting for a proper text input method. This is my number 1 gripe about the device. How can they keep releasing updates and new features, when this feature is so terribly lacking?

I still don't understand Sony's reasoning and I probably never will.
