GTA III mobile out next week for $5 on select devices
Dec 6th 2011 10:39PM (Joystiq)Movies could be available as a VOD rental before DVD, Blu-ray -- for $20 to $30 each
May 24th 2010 3:29PM (Engadget HD)I for one am highly in favour of movie studios releasing movies earlier than normal, in any format at any price.
Anyone who downloads movies knows the glory that the R5 LiNE age has brought us. This could be the icing on the cake.
mSpot stores your music* in the cloud, makes it available anywhere**
May 19th 2010 3:00PM (Engadget)Shit, thought it was for video. My bad.
Although 20GB is a pretty painful limit for music, too.

May 19th 2010 2:59PM (Engadget)So what, I can have SABnzbd+ store like... a day's worth of programming there?
MacBook refresh includes Mini DisplayPort that pumps out HDMI audio
May 19th 2010 2:22AM (Engadget)I didn't know the network admin & director at my job who both make over 150K and have extensive backgrounds in IT & programming were posers and journalists who didn't know anything about computers.
It's especially funny because I am sure they could talk circles around you about basically... any subject to do with advanced computing.
I love you Engadget posers. If there is anything that constantly provides solid proof that Apple haters are nothing more than that, it's Engadget's comments.
MacBook refresh includes Mini DisplayPort that pumps out HDMI audio
May 19th 2010 2:16AM (Engadget)Theoretically they should be able to, but Apple won't support it 1st party because they refuse to pay HDMI licensing costs for some reason (same thing with BluRay).
You'll have to wait on Monoprice releasing a compatible adapter that takes advantage of it, as the current ones they sell don't.
MacBook refresh includes Mini DisplayPort that pumps out HDMI audio
May 19th 2010 2:14AM (Engadget)No, actually, it shouldn't.
3 things:
1. I (and most others) need VGA. Sometimes you just need it, it's not an option in many cases when hooking up to projectors.
2. Apple doesn't ever include more than one video port on a laptop, and hasn't included a bulky-ass VGA port for years.
3. An adapter while not super convenient, is at least easier than some expensive digital to analog converter.
4. HDMI does not support VGA, and never will.
So if you are Apple, what do you do?
MacBook refresh includes Mini DisplayPort that pumps out HDMI audio
May 19th 2010 2:07AM (Engadget)Apple has never, ever, ever had 2 video outputs on a laptop. DisplayPort (and by extension Mini DisplayPort) is compatible with VGA, while HDMI is not.
While this doesn't explain why Mini DP wasn't just launched with audio in the first place (I'll give you that one) it does explain why Apple has always shunned HDMI. Apple keeps ports to a minimum, and including HDMI means they need to include a bulky VGA port as well.
Plus, HDMI audio drivers are typically pure shit, written by companies that don't know the first thing about audio like Intel and Nvidia. They suck on Windows and I seriously doubt they would do a better job on OS X.
You can always buy 3rd party dongles at Monoprice. Mini Display Port is an open standard.
HP says webOS coming to slates and web-connected printers
May 18th 2010 6:38PM (Engadget)How about just a printer with software that doesn't totally suck? A printer with universal software updates?
Sounds absolutely amazing to me. It also means something real can be done with a market that's adding colour screens and crappy software to printers for no reason.
ABC reveals iPad app statistics, says it's 'pleased' with results
Apr 14th 2010 5:43PM (Engadget)But y'know, feel free to make it look like iPad users want to do nothing but watch shows about other people using iPads.
