I think it's great. I like the changes, and the game can still be played as a stealth game. People are overreacting about how the game is no longer stealth oriented. It's up to the player to chose how he wants to approach the level.
In Chaos Theory, there were different weapon and equipment loadouts that catered to a certain play style. I think there were three, but the only two I remember were the stealth and direct engagement. So, Conviction is not ruining anything about Splinter Cell, since the gameplay choices have been done in the past series.
