Soul Blade was one of the games that sold me a PS1—I'm glad to see some people haven't forgotten it. It was very impressive graphically and musically (fully orchestrated soundtrack!), had two cinematic endings and quite a few distinctly different weapons for each character, and I think has actually held up better than most of its sequels.
Dark Souls isn't even THAT difficult. I mean, it is difficult, but not to the point that that needs to be the first aspect of the game everyone talks about—I say this as someone who finished Dark Souls soloing every boss, but has never come close to beating a Grand Theft Auto. Dark Souls just doesn't hold your hand, and it takes time to get a feel for it—and it's totally worth the effort.
I'd call it the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night of this generation, except I think it's perhaps even better because the expansive yet cohesive game world and rewarding exploration are accompanied by a healthy challenge. You always want to know what's through that next door or down that next path, and there's a wonderful sense of tension as you know whatever it is can kill you and will if you're careless. It's not flawless (the level design isn't uniformly great, and I think the multiplayer aspect should have been canned entirely), but the end product is easily the best action RPG I've played in years, if not ever.
MarioKart hasn't been good since MK64. I miss the old blue shells which hit everyone in front of the person who fired it rather than JUST the person in first place. That changed it from a mechanic that helped someone far behind to catch up to something that made being in first place without an enormous lead a GUARANTEE you won't win. The best way around this is to deliberately hang back and try to arrange a last-minute comeback of your own, but where's the fun in that?
I hope they've added some extra content. This is the one released on the NES as "Dizzy the Adventurer," and is short enough to be beaten in one sitting.
