Keep in mind that the 1/4" to USB guitar cable can also be used to connect your guitar to a Mac and can be used in Garage Band. I'm sure it works with other software on PCs as well. You are not limited to Rocksmith.
I'm sure other solutions exist. The Rocksmith setup for 80 bucks is pretty good. In my book, having this on a console is a huge benefit as PCs end up needing too much TLC to get things just right.
What have you come across that you can put your stamp of approval on that I would get the same benefit from as Rocksmith?
I just got it today. It is what I expected so far. Meaning, you plug in your own real guitar and play along with the songs. It works as advertised.
To minimize lag, use audio out from the console and run it into something that is analog. I'm running mine into my iPod iLive speakers and the lag is minimized to the point where it is not a problem.
Also, you can tell the game not to bother starting the difficulty at the low setting and just start at the highest.
It is a bit of a challenge getting used to how notes come at you vs. using guitar tablature. Since I just got it, I will have to see how it goes as I get used to it.
It is way to early to do a proper review in my case because I have not used it much but I think there is enough in there to make it worth while.
Do not compare this "game" to GH or RB. If you do, I am sure you will be disappointed.
Instead, think of this as another software based guitar aid. With some fun thrown in.
The cool part is that you are playing along with a song. Since I am a bedroom guitarist, I mostly play off of tabs and have a drum machine that gives me a nice beat. I don't normally try to play along with songs. I think this software will make it easier to start doing that. That's the way the masters all learned back in the day and it seems like it is a good way to get better.
I would buy this product again if I did not already own it given I have tried it out a bit already.
Well, I'm planning on getting this today and seeing if I agree with the reviewer. I don't care as much for this game being "fun" as I care about its ability to give me a different way to practice and play. I spend $$ on other learning methods so I don't think it's unfair for this price since it includes an active cable.
I read another comment on Amazon where the guy specifically mentioned how to get around lag and that going through HDMI WOULD introduce lag.
Then again, the reviewer could be spot on and I could end up wasting 80 bucks...but that is not the worst thing I have done.
It would be sad to see this flop and never be tried again. I want to see DLC for this sucker.
The PS3 will get hacked. The more exclusive games that are available and the cheaper the system becomes then the more people will try to break it.
With the 360 being both cheaper and having basically the same games it makes sense for people to get one of these, lets say a second one, apply the hardware hack (or whatever) and then have a spare for on-line play.

Oct 24th 2011 2:31PM (Joystiq)The PS3 version is not better because with the 360 you now have a choice of which rez to run. More choice is better, right...RIGHT?!

Jul 12th 2010 9:56AM (Joystiq)Agreed.
They should have locked down the feature set and quality and came out with a game near the ps3 release. And then another one about now.
That is what happened with Forza.

For now, the ps3 is just a target.
