Rare gets new logo for 25th anniversary
Jun 3rd 2010 6:25AM (Joystiq)Woohoo, let's jump on that Rare hate bandwagon!
What nonsense. I know it's fashionable to moan about Rare and how you miss the 'glory days' but I've been playing Rare games since the NES and I've genuinely been happier with this gen's output that any other. Rare are still a legendary studio, they've got the same attitude and talent even if the individual staff are different; and I'm really excited to see what they pull out at E3.
Nuts & Bolts was brilliant, and Viva Pinata is a truly great game, easily one of the top 5 this gen - it's criminal to dismiss it out of hand. Lush visuals (which will age well, unlike fashionable brown'n'grey shooters), easy to pick up and play but also deep if you put in the effort (as anyone who has managed to catch a Galagoogoo will tell you), great music, great writing, great gameplay. Don't ignore it just because your friend said it was for kids.
Guerrilla demonstrates Killzone 3; promises a more epic, varied experience
May 27th 2010 11:47AM (Joystiq)cool fanboy rant bro.
@Spunky Monkey
That is a seriously amazing idea, AI with dynamic emotional reactions. Can you imagine the immersion! I really hope that's just round the corner...

May 27th 2010 11:43AM (Joystiq)It's not a competition. Why would they not try to maximise exposure and minimise competition? Also, those of us who are multiplatform master-race would rather see the good games spread out so we can play them all!

May 27th 2010 11:33AM (Joystiq)PS: I hope Rico dies, that you get to play as the Helghast, and I hope that they integrate the story&gameplay better overall. #2's opening cinematic is the most exciting intro to a game ever, imo - but then the actual game is completely without personality till a second (also awesome) scene at the end. Visari carried the whole story basically.
PPS: The level where you assault the palace is my favourite linear FPS level ever. Another like that please!
Insomniac Games joins EA Partners for new PS3 and Xbox 360 project
May 25th 2010 2:14PM (Joystiq)How is that a bad thing? Rare are a great studio, both Viva Pinata titles are excellent, and are criminally underrated due to not being grey and brown shooters (like, for example, Resistance). The Perfect Dark port is sublime.
I guess they've both made fantastic, well written and amusing games this gen - such as Ratchet & Clank and Banjo NIB - so they do have something in common. But I still don't see how that's a negative.
Celebrate The Empire Strikes Back's 30th birthday with Xbox Live Avatar items
May 19th 2010 1:34PM (Joystiq)It's not so much Microsoft the problem as Lucas Arts. That said, combining the two leads to a perfect storm of greed - the price of avatar duds has risen consitently and the Star Wars gear has been at the forefront of those rises each time :(
I pachterdict that these outfits will be 400 points each, possibly more.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior media bangs a few heads
May 15th 2010 8:57PM (Joystiq)Fantastic. Not for me, but all the Recon players will hopefully leave Bad Company for this, and we can get on with playing a team game as it's meant to be played.
