The Force Unleashed demo breaks XBLM download record

Sep 10th 2008 11:47PM (Joystiq)
well that's not good...I mean anyone who has tried the demo agrees that this is a pretty average game. so if 2 million people have downloaded the demo, then that's 2 million people who won't buy the game.

Amazon puts PS3 deals in the Gold Box

Aug 25th 2008 9:02PM (Joystiq)
Abscissa: to the people who say the 360 has a better game library than the PS3: What are the good 360 games that the PS3 doesn't have?

A whole bunch of games. the most noteworthy being Gears of War, Halo3, Ninja Gaiden II, and Mass Effect. BUT the other question you have to ask is "what are the PS3 games that the 360 doesn't have?". Again the answer is a whole bunch of games but the most noteworthy are Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance.

(note that I only mentioned games that are currently available on the market)

Both consoles have great exclusives down the line too. The 360 has Fable 2, Halo Wars, Gears of War 2, and Banjo Kazooie while the PS3 has Killzon 2, Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, and God of War 3

Bioshock is also making it's way to the PS3 and although it's not official yet, I gaurantee you that the Mass Effect sequels will be multi-platform since EA owns the rights now...and if there's one thing everyone knows about EA it is the fact that they rarely (if ever) publish games for only ONE platform.

Joystiq Review: Silent Hill (the movie) [Update 2]

Apr 22nd 2006 11:15PM (Joystiq)
There were moments in the movie when I said to myself "NOW THAT WAS F***ING AWSOME". Just watch any scene involving pyramid head and I guarantee you that you'll be saying the same. This movie is definitely THE MOST FAITHFUL VIDEOGAME ADAPTAION TO DATE. i just wish they didn't put Sean Bean in the movie. He was basically supposed to play the part of James Sunderland from Silent Hill 2 but since the movie focuses on Rose and her daughter, there isn't time to develop his character. I think he should have been left out and instead, they movie should have just focused on the first Silent Hill game's storyline. Pyramid Head for example, isn't just a monster in the games. it is supposed to represent something (which i won't spoil) but because the movie doesn't focus on Sean Bean's character, pyramid head is reduced to a mere monster who kills.
The acting was decent. The dialogue worked at least for the most part. the set design and special and visual effects are f***ing amazing as well.
Overall i liked the movie up to the last 30 minutes of it. i recommend it to any silent hill fan. It’s way better than doom, resident evil, RE: Apocalypse, or any other video game based movie.

Edge asks, "Why aren't games funny?"

Apr 7th 2006 5:16PM (Joystiq)
i don't think there isn't any comedy in videogames. even the most popular current-gen game franchise "grand theft auto" has comedy in it. 70% of the cutscenes have some sort of funny moment and you can run in to some pretty funny situations in the game as well. the undergroud tony hawk games are pretty funny too. there are so many other examples. sure they're not laugh out loud funny like the monkey island series but that's just because people don't buy those types of games anymore.
oh and what's "passed over in favor of the occasional gag in Metal Gear Solid" supposed to mean? at least MGS has funny moments in it (unlike every other stealth game).

PS3 is a no-show at Sony's PlayStation Event

Mar 2nd 2006 1:52AM (Joystiq)
correct me if i'm wrong but aren't there still a lot of great games being developed for PS2? why is there such a rush to release PS3 this spring? i'm not going to buy a PS3 anyway when i still have final fantasy xii and ingdom hearts 2 and metal gear solid 3:subsistance and a lot of other great games to play on my PS2. i think sony should keep the sony fans busy with the PS2 and take it's time to make sure that the PS3 launch goes smoothely (unlike the xbox360 and PS2 lanches).

Iraq war as text (mis)adventure

Jan 23rd 2006 4:21PM (Joystiq)
oh well. too bad conservatives are too dumb to make a game that bashed libs. so guess what? liberals win just as they ALWAYS have. oh and "get the job done"? you mean going to war with a country that hasn't done anything to you or israel? sure saddam was evil but remember that you conservatives went there for wmds and not to spread freedom. when you realized you f***ed up, you quickly changed it to "liberating" the iraqis. we all know you don't give a s*** about them. if you wanted to help the poor, you'd help the africans in need. and guess whos helpind africans now? liberals!!!

PlayStation 3 pr0n, nothing of substance

Jan 9th 2006 8:15PM (Joystiq)
I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU GUYS AT JOYSTIQ. WHAT DID SONY DO TO YOU? WHY WAS THE XBOX360 LAUNCH SUCCESSFUL?
THERE ARE HARDLY ANY UNITS AVAILABLE AND THE GAMES (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF 2-3 GAMES) AREN'T ANY GOOD. THERE IS NOTHING NEXT-GEN ABOUT THE 360. I'M NOT SAYING THE PS3 IS BUT WE'LL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE. SO WHY DO YOU CRITICIZE THE PS3? I HAVEN'T READ ANY ARTICLES FROM YOU GUYS THAT DOESN'T BASH SONY. I MEAN F*** SONY FOR ALL I CARE. THEY JUST WANT MY MONEY BUT I JUST THINK IT'S UNFAIR WHEN YOU CRITICIZE SONY A LOT MORE THAN THE OTHERS. BE A LITTLE MORE FAIR WILL YOU? THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T RUSH AND GIVE THE CONSUMERS A PIECE OF CRAP CONSOLE WITH SO MANY BUGS LIKE MICROSOFT.

Impending video games industry boom?

Dec 30th 2005 12:19AM (Joystiq)
good point "skyrous". i wasn't even thinking about the hdtv part. and your right about the high prices too but just thinking about the footage of killzone2 and metal gear solid 4 makes me completely forget about the amount of money i have to spend to play those games.

Impending video games industry boom?

Dec 29th 2005 10:48PM (Joystiq)
well i think you guys have a point but think about it this way. a lot of people stay away from videogames because they think their too complex. and then there's another typr who don't have time to play these "complex" games. they just wanna pick up and play. ok so for these two types of people, developers should make "simple" games (which is exactly wahat nintndo is doing). but then there's another group (the group that i'm in). real "gamers" who have grown up with videogames and have no trouble playing these "complex games". Coincidentally, the majority of the people who pay 50$ for their games are like me. and sony and microsft seem to be dong a pretty good job at making games for us. i think the industry is doing fine. nintendo is covering the first two groups and sony and ms are making games for us. i don't see why the industry should change. i'm not finding a shortage of "simple" games.

Impending video games industry boom?

the article is just straight up BS. maybe "simple" games attract non gamers but "gamers" like complex games. look at the sales of the "complex" games on ps2 and xbox and compare them to the sales of the "simple" games on gamecube. even the successful games on gamecube are complex (re4, zelda, metroid). i love halo, metal gear, final fantasy, gta, etc. and they're all complex.
