Apple's iPhone lockdown: apps must be written in one of three languages, Adobe in the hurt locker
Apr 9th 2010 12:34AM (Engadget)I feel like they would definitely have a performance concern with interpreted languages, but... their syntax is just so sexy.

Sep 15th 2009 1:27AM (Joystiq)Honestly... I think the fault may be with Courtney Love, who seems to use the rights to Nirvana's catalogue more freely than some would like (though it does not seem out of character, and ironically the perverted way in which Nirvana is now used in media, along with Nirvana fans' anger, is almost appropriate); I myself was a bit disappointed when "Breed" was in "Shoot 'em Up," despite liking both the movie and the song. I certainly did not like hearing it in a baseball game commercial.
How would you change the netbook as we know it?
Sep 13th 2009 5:05PM (Engadget)I think he's right; Intel seem to be the bigger culprits in hardware limitations on netbooks, since their pricing scheme so heavily promotes using a single core atom with intel integrated graphics
Microsoft seem to be making a bit of a transition in how they deal with netbooks, because it's becoming harder for them to restrict them and Windows 7 runs pretty well on netbooks, so they perhaps have less of a need for their XP pricing schemes
I think there are more netbooks being subsidized, too? That's kind of changing how everything is working now
How would you change the netbook as we know it?
Sep 13th 2009 5:00PM (Engadget)I think he's more close to the term "smartbook" as we will soon know it
I think video playback is actually sort of nice on a net/smart/tiny-laptop book, if only for flash video and smoother performance with higher resolution screens, but I agree with you in that their strengths are their high battery life and focus on internet capability
that said, I coded a java assignment on one and it wasn't a bad experience; with high-enough resolution and large enough keyboards, they make great companions for any sort of text editing, including low-performance programming
Hands-on: Heavy Rain introduces Scott Shelby
Sep 6th 2009 7:55PM (Joystiq)It is not an interactive movie in the way other games are, and that idea is what makes it unique.
Hands-on: Heavy Rain introduces Scott Shelby
Sep 6th 2009 7:45PM (Joystiq)he's technically right (technically)
I don't think games these days are generally interactive movies; games with a focus on lots and lots of "active" gameplay seem less based on plot and more on pressing buttons and killing bad guys. When I think of "interactive movie" I think of watching a movie with an opportunity to significantly change the plot or events of the movie, which would make it seem more like an interactive movie than a movie-like-game
That being said, I'm definitely willing to spend $60 on this game; while it doesn't necessarily look "fun," it certainly looks rewarding
