Third-party X360 Bluetooth headset beats MS to the punch
Jun 27th 2006 9:37AM (Joystiq)I think "uber-geek" when I see them, and can barely restrain myself from heckling in a robotic tone, "Resistance.is.futile.You.WILL.be.assimilated!"
But then again, only a geek would want to use such a phrase as mockery.. hmm..

Oklahoma guv signs violent games bill into law
Jun 13th 2006 12:08AM (Joystiq)- the conservatives on the court will vote to uphold the laws restricting free speech in the name of "morals" (Scalia, Alito, Roberts, Thomas)
- the liberals on the court will strike-down the laws, declaring that they restrict of art/speech and that they are too vague (Ginsberg, Breyer, Souter, Stevens)
- the one remaining moderate swing vote will decide the case (Kennedy)
Right now, we have enough liberals on the lower courts to stop this kind of bullshit. But if we keep voting for the GOP, we're going to see a chorus line of Scalia-clones giving this type of law the thumbs-up. Democratic lawmakers and executives might be cowardly enough to pass this kind of tripe, but they do so knowing that their court appointees will knock this shit out down the line. Republicans? Not so much.
There is a difference.
BestBuy.com wants your Wii gaming loot now
Jun 9th 2006 6:37AM (Joystiq)You state the case for Best Buy pretty well.
BestBuy.com wants your Wii gaming loot now
Jun 9th 2006 6:35AM (Joystiq)At this point, I'll most probably be camping out for my Wii instead of rolling the dice with EB or GameStop. I'll get there on the day before Launch Day (probably early in the morning.. 8AM perhaps?) and wait. The pre-order horror stories from the 360's launch, the high level of buzz for the Wii, Nintendo's stated intention of launching worldwide with such a small supply.. it all factors into my decision to wait in line.
Here's hoping for good weather.. :P

Japanese analysts have fun with next-gen consoles
Jan 31st 2006 12:12AM (Joystiq)Predictions for Japan (for the generation):
Sony - 54%
Nintendo - 39%
Microsoft - 7%
Predictions for worldwide sales:
Sony - 50%
Nintendo - 27%
Microsoft - 23%
Fiscal predictions:
Sony - if they make a profit, it'll be tiny. BR licensing will not cover the loss-per-unit-sold of the PS3, as consumer resistance to yet another format change will reduce infiltration into peoples' living rooms. Look for more layoffs.
Nintendo - Laughing all the way to the bank, as usual. Happy investors, as usual. Smart business model, as usual.
Microsoft - another multi-billion-dollar loss?! Investors will be a mixture of pissed and wary, but Gates is stubborn in taking-over electronic industries one at a time, so don't be surprised when XBox 33 1/3 is unveiled. It would be "XBox 720," but that's too typical a name.
Wal-Mart and Google - two more non-gaming companies looking to butt-into a market that they see as lucrative, ahem.. But their respective leaders will decide that the console market is crowded enough already.
Look at me, Ma - I'm an analyst! Where's my paycheck? :P
Joystiq predicts 2006: the predictioning
Jan 23rd 2006 11:29AM (Joystiq)Sadly, I see Sony still out in 1st place with MS basically buying second place (another $4 billion loss, anyone?). Nintendo's market share will improve however (to perhaps 20%?),and they will continue to laugh all the way to the bank.
I predict that many people will continue to complain about the industry, be it about sequilitis, lack of innovation in hardware & software, emphasis of graphics over gameplay, high development costs, EA games in general, monotony of certain dominating genres, etc.
I also predict that many those saaame complainers will get on their knees once again to fiscally fellate MS and Sony. And I predict that the irony will go right over their heads.
