There really wasn't anything about the Xbox 360 launch that appealed to the Japanese, especially when the PS3 is (possibly) less than six months away. People generally only buy Xmas presents for kids here, so the DS is understandably the biggest seller.

Are the Japanese racist for not buying Western products? Well, Apple's iPod has a 60% share of the music player market in Japan, and the luxury goods market is dominated by Western companies. So no, there's not really much evidence to support that one.

If Microsoft manage to get some decent games out before the PS3 launch is confirmed, then they might have more success. I doubt it though.
