Cars and Trauma Center are Revolution bound

Mar 5th 2006 9:48PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I agree. I think it would be interesting if they took this title's success and used it to spin off some more mature material.

How about a new genre called "surgical simulation". You could have several iterations like "Plastic Surgery" where you perform facial surgery, tummy tucks and of course breast augmentation. I'm sure a game with this possibility would sell well with the 18-24 category. Then you could transfer your surgical creations to an online MMO for use as an avater. Or you could have a version with "bionics" where you could repair war casualties for use in some new FPS. The crossover potential is endless. Ok, nevermide, stupid idea.

POLL: How much will Revolution games retail for?

Mar 4th 2006 2:52PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I completely agree with artimus. I think part of the "revolution" or paradigm shift will be that there will be different types of games at different price points based not just on dev cost, but also on demographic. The full scale games like zelda, metroid, and mario will likely be $49.99. I think there will also be a very full bodied categoy of $39.99 games as well, such as Revolution versions of Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, etc. Then I believe there will be a more sparsely populated (initially) lineup of $29.99 games such as the cooking game, puzzle games and other types of non-games that will be targeted toward the "non-traditional" gamers. These games will be developed by smaller studios that could likely not afford to get a game on the PS3 or 360 and will essentially be small games with a big idea. Finally, I'm not sure it will happen but I hope there will be yet another category of games that are in the $10-15 range available only via download where micro-development houses have an opportunity to get a game to the masses without driving a huge budget with production lines and all that. These games could be much smaller in scope but very pick-up-and-play friendly.

n-Space developing for Revolution

Feb 22nd 2006 8:34PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Geist was good overall. It had a few kinks that kept it from being spectacular but for the most part I believe it was punished for not being the next Halo or whatever the hype was that fueled it leading up to its delays.

Anyway, critics were for the most part too critical of it as one can see from the fact that most every sites reader reviews were significantly higher than the "official" reviewers.

Based on the originality and nice mix of puzzle/shooter/adventure, I look forward to their next effort on Revo. For a first major effort at a AAA title, Geist was pretty solid.

I would definitely like to see n-space get the retro treatment and have nintendo really get behind them. They could be a very strong asset in the next gen.

Classic Ghouls & Ghosts action headed to PSP

Feb 19th 2006 10:45PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I still remember the late night fever dreams I had from playing the original ghosts-n-goblins on the NES. Ghouls gave some great memories too. I don't know why people are crying about ports and rehashes when they are games as good as this. Who wouldn't want this portable? Especially on the PSP. It should be great. I'm mixed about the same points though. I like the original difficulty, but I'm older and have a shorter attention span for crushing levels of difficulty. I just dont have the time to replay a level 50 times like back in the day.

"Holy smokes," Gears of War demo is close

Feb 19th 2006 10:41PM (Joystiq Xbox)
"Holy crap, i just had a crazy idea - what if gears of war sux?"

No way. Its looking great. I can't wait to see this thing on the shelf. I'll be grabbing it right away.

Admittedly, the hype for a game can build and ruin its reception a bit. In cases like this, I do my best to avoid reading any reviews so I can judge it for myself.

Many times, I have played a game and liked and then read a bad review that would have kept me from buying it. Luckily I didnt read the review, or I would have missed out. Unfortunately, sometimes this leads to buying a POS game as well.

How much will the Revolution retail for?

Feb 19th 2006 10:35PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I think $199 is where it will hit. I think that strikes the balance between affordability and the consumers perception that they are buying something high tech and quality.

That being said, what is everyone's take and packing in a game with a launch system?

I remember buying my NES and getting SMB with it. I was so excited for the bundled game and it meant you could go home and play with no additional purchases.

It seems this is only a tactic for consoles later in their lives nowadays. I think a $249 bundle with an extra controller, shell, and a game would be perfect.

IBM's new servers use PS3 technology: should gamers care?

Feb 11th 2006 8:11AM (Joystiq)
Any poster who says this.....:

"if your also stupid enough to buy a console for unproven gimmicky items like......a controller that you hold out in front of you like an idiot, that will only be able to be used for twenty or so minutes.. like a light gun...as arms get sore, then thats your own dumb arse fault."

And then goes on to say this....:

"I am not a fanboy like some"

....is pushing the limits of the human ability for contradiction.

Dude, I hate to break it to you, but your official lifetime fanboy membership card should be arriving in your mailbox very soon. You're one of the worst fanboys on joystiq my friend. You keep other fanboys on their toes as you set new standards in fanboyness.
Anyone who vehemently bashes consoles that have not been released is a fanboy pure and simple. Likewise, anyone who is in love with a console they have never seen a real game on, or played, or touched is a fanboy pure and simple. Get a life. Sony makes good consoles. Hopefully PS3 is great. But settle down with the fanboy rhetoric. Its lame.

"Ughhh... Many, for gamers, some of you don't seem to be that on-the-ball. "

Ugg, for a sony fanboy, you don't seem to have much of a sense of humor.

Mayor Bloomberg cracks down on Solitaire-playing employee

Feb 10th 2006 4:47PM (Joystiq)
"I hate republicans, thats why I didnt' vote for the *ucker!"

Also, in case you didnt know. Bloomberg IS A DEMOCRAT!

He ran as a republican because the democratic field was too crowded.

Settle down with the political BS and know what the heck you are talking about before you spew shart like that where it doesn't belong.

On a related note, IBM has just recently confirmed their new cell-based server farms will be able to produce toy story quality graphics in real time.
