FFXIII-2 first week sales roughly a third of FFXIII's first week sales

Dec 26th 2011 8:03PM (Joystiq)
@Zippy Zapp That's exactly what they did. They changed the formula, making a very different game. Thing is, it's hard to convince people of that exact fact, considering that the previous title was a very bad game.

FFXIII-2 first week sales roughly a third of FFXIII's first week sales

@devwild I think you've nailed it.

Final Fantasy is a particularly strong brand. After waiting 5 years for the next title and that on a next-generation console, FFXIII was hyped to death. Then when everyone played it, not very many people actually liked that game.

I personally place my blame on Motomu Toriyama the director. HE is the one you should all be blaming for the supposed downfall of Final Fantasy, not Tetsuya Nomura or someone else.

Toriyama directed FFXIII badly. The amount of time passed working only on the engine of the game resulted in bad direction of the game itself; when they finally got the engine up and running, they still had little idea what to do or how to make the game itself like. They just came up with the simple solution of clearing away every extras and other things that make the game itself varied. Resulting in the extreme linearity of the game. Even the cutscenes themselves were badly directed with corny and badly written dialogue, where Snow shouts out that they've "GOTTA SAVE SERAH, GOTTA SAVE COCOON!" every other minute and all that rich and potentially exciting back-story and general plot of the game was crammed into this text-heavy datalogue at the same time.

Maybe XIII-2 is a much better game, heck, maybe it's even splendid. But seeing as we never asked for this title to begin with, people generally did not like the former title along with the fact that it's a sequel to a sequel in the FF series, being not as hyped and it's definitely not the first title of this generation of consoles, no wonder it did not sell as much.

What does everyone else think?

Liveblogging the Spike 2011 Video Game Awards

Dec 10th 2011 8:51PM (Joystiq)
Being Icelandic, I'm forced to watch it in crappy, hiccoughing quality here: http://88.80.17.89/user/mediaplayer/player.swf?autostart=true&controlbar.position=over&streamer=rtmp://109.201.135.51/live/&file=spike.flv

If anyone has a live stream URL that non-Americans can watch, then please let me know! :)

Still, all those commercials. They're so weird... Really America? :D

Nomura considering 'HD technical test' for Kingdom Hearts anniversary

Aug 9th 2011 5:34PM (Joystiq)
Hopefully it will be an HD collection of the Final Mix versions of 1, 2, Birth by Sleep along with COM and even 358/2 Days and Re:Coded for the heck of it :)

Also, am I the only one who's not that desperate for KH3? Aren't you satisied enough with 1, 2, Birth by Sleep (a terrific game which is basically KH0) and now Dream Drop Distance? Along with the spin-off titles COM, Coded and 358/2 Days? Do you people need to be reminded each time that the main KH development team is BUSY WITH FINAL FANTASY VERSUS XIII, THAT'S WHY KH3 isn't out yet. I for one am grateful that they at the very least whet our appetites with all these games. Keeps the series alive.

Activist group hoping to bring back Mega Man Legends 3

Jul 24th 2011 7:45PM (Joystiq)
Joined. Really hope they succeed, seeing as this is one of my all-time favorite video-game series. Got the first one for my 6th birthday and I still love the game even today.

Also, judging by all the comments I've read over various threads, it seems that a lot of fans were planning on buying MML3 but didn't really want to participate in the Devroom. Capcom needs to realize this as well.

Mega Man Legends 3 Project canceled

Jul 19th 2011 7:23AM (Joystiq)
I remember when I was lazily browsing Joystiq last fall during an exceptionally boring class and then BOOM! Mega Man Legends 3 announced.

I just remember, the sheer happiness I felt. That previously cloudy and murky day became brighter and I was so happy.

Fast forward to the present. Shame on you Capcom, shame on you.

I have been a huge fan of this series ever since I got MML1 on the PS1 during my 6th birthday. I played through every inch of this game, again and again and again. Then I stumbled upon Misadventures of Tron Bonne during my visit to Gibraltar. It was a very nice surprise. Loved that game as well, there certainly is a unique feel to these games. It's like they're so ful of raw 'happy'. But living in Iceland meant that we rarely got all games you Americans could easily get in your stores on day 1. But when I was out shopping one day with my cousin and we went to the videogame store, all of a sudden, there it was: Mega Man Legends 2. OHMYGAWSH that game was amazing.

Ever since then, I've been waiting 10 years for the sequel.

So right now, the only hope for this game I can think of is:

A. After strong fan letters and angry threats, development continues for the 3DS.
B. They're restarting development for the PlayStation Vita, seeing as the 3DS aint doing so good.
C. Inafune might be able to buy off the rights for Mega Man from Capcom and continue development for the game through his own company.

Personally I would love a combination of B and C. A PlayStation Vita Mega Man Legends game made supervised by Inafune himself. That would be fine by me.

Hey, you! Wanna write for Joystiq?

I'd love to do this job, if I didn't live in Iceland :/

Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version delayed past 3DS eShop launch

May 21st 2011 7:33AM (Joystiq)
@EEdocSnitthu

Mega Man Legends 3 only begins with this character, Barrett during the beginning of the game (which you'll play in the prologue) because if you remember the ending of Legends 2, a certain someone is stuck way up in the skies, so to speak. Once they figure out how to solve that, then we can get our hero back and play as him.

I for one welcome a bit of a change, playing as another character as well.

Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version delayed past 3DS eShop launch

I'm still not going to be fuzzed about it. I'm just very happy that they contribute to the fans and give us a taste of the game, even though it's early in development. Other gaming companies should do the same with their games, give the fans a taste of like the beginning of their title and we give them feedback while we get to enjoy an early play of an anticipated title of ours. It's basically a win-win situation here.

Also, Mega Man Legends is awesome. Everybody who haven't tried the series out, you definitely should. It's a great mixture of action and RPG followed by great memorable characters, environments and overall a great experience.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep: Volume 2 teased by Final Mix secret ending

Jan 20th 2011 7:07AM (Joystiq)
I for one am getting really tired of people who keep on ranting about why they can't have Kingdom Hearts 3, when in fact a lot of decent KH games have actually come out, just not necessarily with the number 3.

Does it MATTER?

Take Birth by Sleep for example, a great game, it IS a main game, in fact KH0 and still you guys only want KH3?

DON'T WORRY, KH3 will come out, like stated about a 1000 times, the team responsible for KH3 has been busy with Versus XIII, that's why Nomura uses other teams at his disposal to work hard for us, THE FANS to give us a whole bunch of games to satisfy our needs. I admit, perhaps not all of them have been THAT great, but we nevertheless have Birth by Sleep, KH: 3D which is a large title just like BBS, 1 and 2 and is supposed to be the big prequel before KH3 and now BBS: Volume 2.

I welcome the chance to be able to get more decent games, rather than only one.
