Fanswag Weekly: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 [update]

Apr 17th 2008 1:43PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I broke up with my girlfriend of three and a half years (that I was happy with) for a woman in my History of Rock Music class - because of a hunch. Here I am, six years later, still with the mystery girl. We've been married for four years. Life's never been better.

Half a day's drive away. I am SO there. Thanks, Joystiq!

Riiiiiiiiiiidge Racer! Xbox 360 vs. PS3 screens

Nov 14th 2006 2:26PM (Joystiq)
I dunno. I'm going to have to disagree with everyone. I'm a complete 360 fanboy, but I think the PS3 pictures look more like photographs (aside from the ugly rocks on the left of the bottom PS3 picture). Look at the water. It appears to be lacking detail in the PS3 version, but does water really look like it does in the 360 shots? To me it looks like we're comparing decent computer renderings of a scene (360) with (admittedly washed-out looking) photographs of the same scene (PS3). I did just wake up, though, so I could be way off base.

5 reasons why Sony won't lose the next-gen console war

Oct 27th 2006 7:26PM (Joystiq)
I agree. Sony will probably sell more units overall while losing the huge advantage they had last generation. Add in the fact that they don't plan on releasing a new console in 4 years when the other two companies do, and it's more difficult to measure.

I've got a 360, a pre-ordered Wii, and I'll save up for a PS3 sometime in the first half of next year. I think all three systems are going to be great, and I'm looking forward to great titles on all of them. Wii with the 1st party franchises and novelty games, 360 for cross-platform games (I like achievements), and PS3 for exclusives like MGS, FFXIII, and Silent Hill if they make it exclusive. While the console war is kind of fun to follow, I'm far more interested in what developers actually do with the hardware. I'm even more interested in what they do with gameplay and story. Graphics are like ice cream on a slice of perfect pie.

Nyko's Intercooler may burninate the Xbox 360

Oct 27th 2006 7:15PM (Joystiq)
Holy crap. I haven't had any problems with mine, but I'm not going to wait until it burns up my system to stop using it. Thanks for the heads up, 'Stiq.

Japanese game copyright: attack of the clones

Perhaps, morder, but I feel like it's a sort of sad day when people don't mind if they're having fun by way of blatant thievery. I was considering buying Zuma, but after reading this article have decided against it. It might not matter to consumers, but it matters to the people who worked hard on the games that are being stolen. At the end of the day, developers and gamers are all real people with real feelings and real investments in how they spend their time.

EA charging twice for downloadable content [update 1]

Oct 24th 2006 6:42PM (Joystiq)
Man, back in the day, we had to enter cheat codes to get lots of in-game money. Being able to charge it to my credit card is so much easier and less time-consuming than pushing all those buttons on my controller. I hope EA sells me an option that will let the computer take control of the game and finish all the missions for me while I watch. That would be pretty cool. Or, better yet, gives me an option to just give them money for absolutely nothing in return. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

Rockin' Tom, the inhabitants of the internet hate whatever is successful and popular. And if something they like gets popular, they said that it was good before it was well-known but sucks now. Hipsters and internet-folk might seem different, but are, at their core, identical.

Determining the future of Nintendo's Game Boy

Oct 24th 2006 3:48PM (Joystiq)
Am I silly in feeling like the DS was the successor to the Gameboy? It's easy to see why I would think that. It has what appears to be "backwards compatibility" with the GBA. And really, what is a Gameboy? A Nintendo handheld? Can't they just stick the Gameboy name on the next iteration of the DS?

My guess is that this is what they will do. They just wanted to compete with the PSP and people's perception of a Gameboy playing little black and white (or muddy-yellowish) games on a huge, upright brick of a handheld probably wouldn't have helped sell DSes. Now that they're secure on top of the market, bringing back the name for the next handheld console wouldn't be that crazy an idea.

No gamerscore, no achievements on PS3

Oct 24th 2006 3:22PM (Joystiq)
"obviuosly they are going to say they love it due to the fact they are defending thier console"

I say I love the achievement system because I genuinely do. It's fun to see what you've done in games that friends did differently. I'm not a MS fanboy; I'll definitely be getting a PS3 next year when they actually launch (the quantities make the official launch more of a teaser). However, as #82 said, any game that comes out for both systems I will purchase for the 360 so that I can unlock achievements. Not to show off, not because I hate Sony or love MS. Because I like it and it's fun to approach the game in different ways to unlock achievements.
