Does Microsoft need Japan to succeed?
Apr 20th 2007 2:17PM (Joystiq)I know Americans love their companies and products, but facts are facts, he's just questioning something.
The above post is obviously just a fanboy rant to defend his favourite system. At no point in the article did the author state the Xbox or Xbox 360 were flawed machines.
And to all the xenophobes using 'tentacle rape bestiality simulators' as a defence for their upright Christian values, take a long hard look at all the filth in your own country before casting the first stone. Every country has an ugly side. Yours is no different.
Subway's video game ad reaches new low
Apr 3rd 2007 12:08PM (Joystiq)They were just using what kids nowadays love - videogames - and using it to drive home the message.
Get over it.
Xbox 360's Red Ring of Death visits Weekly Geek Show
Mar 25th 2007 8:24AM (Joystiq)I've never seen a console with such spectacular failure rates (and I've owned almost all since the NES). Plus with most games going multiplatform and me not being in the US (they don't honour warranties with the same professionalism in other parts of the world), I'll probably pick up a PS3 when there are better games for it.
EB Games: PSP is passé, DS Lite is the future
Feb 20th 2007 11:24PM (Joystiq)In the world of gaming nerds, there's no such thing as 'live and let live'. Whatever console they prefer is the one and only one. Anyone with a differing opinion is simply a fanboy or a mainstream gamer to them.
That said, the PSP isn't doing so 'bad' as the hardcore nerds out there might make it out to be. A lot of people I know either own or want a PSP. Some haven't even heard of the DS before or just think it's for girls/children.
I'm a DS owner and while I don't intend to buy a PSP in the near future, I don't think others are wrong to buy it. Live and let live people.
Is it publicly and socially acceptable to be a gamer now?
Jan 27th 2007 5:11AM (Joystiq)I was going to write about that, but #22 already explained it. All the activities you brought up are non-creative, but they are easy to get into. It only requires 2 hours and a couple of bucks to watch a movie. You can listen to music while you do almost anything. And strolling through a museum is similarly easy.
To appreciate a game, you're going to spend at least $40 dollars on a game, and a few hundred on a console. Also, you're going to need to spend at least 10 hours on average (RPGs are more) to complete the game.
Hard as it may be for gamers to comprehend, the majority of people aren't willing to devote so much time and money to enjoy games. This 'hardcore' nature of the hobby lends itself to its nerdiness, similar to D&D and Warhammer RPGs and tabletop games, although considerably less so.
Is it publicly and socially acceptable to be a gamer now?
Jan 27th 2007 12:52AM (Joystiq)You gain almost nothing out of gaming. If you knit, at least you can be creative and make something cool. But as for gaming, you get nothing out of it, even though you spend so much time doing it. Imagine trying to impress a girl with your awesome Guitar Hero skills versus playing her a song with a real guitar.
I won't tell people I play games unless I know they do. The reason? Nobody will know what you're talking about and nobody wants to know.

Jan 16th 2007 9:09PM (Joystiq)What if... you could learn real guitar through games?
Jan 5th 2007 6:27AM (Joystiq)Games like guitar hero are dumbed down on purpose: making the controller a real guitar would mean bleeding fingers and lots of frustration.
