In the 4+ years of playing warcraft, I was never interested in fishing, until I found myself wanting to level cooking from 1-450 and followed a guide that recommended obtaining the meat from fishing to level the cooking profession.
So began my journey into what at first looked boring and uneventful.
Little did I know how exciting it would be to click on that little loot cog and see what wild and crazy things I would pull out of a pool of water, lake, or coastal beach, along with the fish/meat I needed to cook with.
I found myself researching sites that were dedicated to fishing and found a wonderful community of information on the "art" of fishing. One of my favorite sites is El's Extreme Anglin' at http://www.elsanglin.com/ .
What started out as a simple means to an end, turned into a journey of fun in the game that had little or nothing to do with raiding, killing, or grouping with others.
If you look closely you will spot a cult of Salty people out there who really dig to fish.
They typically are off in the nether regions, in seclusion, with a pair of blue coveralls and a fun looking hat of their liking possible sitting on a lawn chair under a red and white umbrella just casting and waiting for that next bite.
I for one am "hooked" on fishing and I have a feeling it has to do with all the fun things you can do and get from it.
In classic wow, it was not this way, so I think recent expansion and Wrath have made it easier to enjoy fishing.
I know it is too late now for the expansion, but I would have loved an option to roll an alliance Tauren toon. Then the poor dev team would not have had to take time to fit gear for the new alliance Draenei and the whole shaman class would have been a done deal.
Breakfast Topic: Fishing is awesome
