The Joystiq Show - 001: Duke Nukem Forever

Jun 17th 2011 11:01PM (Joystiq)
I'm sorry guys. I got half an hour into this podcast and realised I was listening to Chris and someone I do not care about drivel on about this guy's life story. It's a testament to the goodwill the old show built up that I made it this far.

I will not be listening to the joystick show any further if this is any indication of how the new format will work. 15-minute long interviews with uninteresting people does not a podcast make.

There was an awesome chemistry between Ludwig, Chris and Justin. Just because that format (What 'cha bin' playin', News, etcetera) wasn't particularly unique doesn't make it unentertaining. Please, bring it back.

Legend of Zork online adventure goes live

I had high hopes, clicking around the site enjoying their sense of humour, until I came across the option to buy "coconuts", which can be purchased with real-world money and convey in-game benefits.

I closed the window and will never visit that site again. A real shame.

Left 4 Dead pre-orders to grant early demo access

Oct 28th 2008 7:00PM (Joystiq)
Yes. Yes you do.

007craft makes an interesting point. Is a demo's purpose to woo undecided buyers or is it fanservice?

I, for one, am looking forward to the demo so I can convince my GF that it's worth picking up. She and I had much fun playing Serious Sam co-op so I think it'd be a good fit, but we're going to have to wait for the later date until we can actually play together. I'm caught squarely between the "woo" and "fanservice" camps.

I wrote an in-depth review over yonder:

Want the tl;dr? If you've got the hardware, and like the sound of GTA in the African plains, buy it.

Fallout 3 available for pre-order via Steam

Oct 25th 2008 2:06AM (Joystiq)
I'm an Australian and I just had an accomplice in Canada gift the game to me, at USD$50, and I transferred them USD$55 via paypal. They made a nice little profit and I saved a tidy USD$15, AUD$24.

Nice little scam. Here's hoping valve doesn't catch on.

Joystiq Podcast 061 - Back to the '70s edition

Correction: "...damn mics of midway..." -> "...damn mics OFF midway..."

Joystiq Podcast 061 - Back to the '70s edition

Aug 19th 2008 8:10PM (Joystiq)
Please PLEASE stop turning your damn mics of midway through the 'cast, or find a more elegant means of doing so. Every time I hear that telltale "poc!" of a mic switch I know that someone's abusing a spouse, or coughing, or whatever.

Stop it, or I'll demand a refund on my subscription. Srs.

World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade footage leak

Sep 30th 2006 9:08AM (Joystiq)
I'm pretty sure that'd be a Drenai thing, maybe their crashed ship? Or their outpost in the Outlands. Or something. Possibly...

At any rate, burning crusade looks to be more than your average "bit-more-landmass-and-a-few-extra-mobs" MMO expansion. I'll be picking it up.

Aussie Wii for AUD399.95 on Dec. 7

Sep 15th 2006 12:20PM (Joystiq)
I was also expecting the Wii at about 330. That was assuming a straight USD->AUD conversion. We're effectively paying seventy bucks shipping. I'd rather order one from the US. Shipping shouldn't be any more than forty.

Apple wants your mommy to control WoW

Aug 15th 2006 3:42AM (Joystiq)
It's interesting that Blizzard already provides this functionality built into WoW's profile pages. A parent can set time limits on how much time their spawn can play WoW and lock this in place with a seperate password.

It's rather funny to hear the younger members of your guild say "Oh no! Parental lockout! Brb, getting mum" over ventrilo halfway though a BWL run.
