We've got Leopard, what do you want to know?

Oct 26th 2007 12:15AM (Engadget)
Yeah, I googled it the other day and noticed that a few publications who mentioned DFS support in their articles recently removed any reference to DFS support in both client and server products. I was hoping they may have been mistaken or overlooked something. To be honest, I'm still amazed how Apple can ignore a feature so many Higher-Ed and Corporate users and IT staff have been begging for. Oh well, at least Thursby's AdmitMac is a relatively decent solution... even if it is pricey.

How about DFS support? AdmitMac is an expensive solution to integrate into our AD environment that has all user home directories using Microsoft's DFS. The only leopard beta I played with didn't seem to add DFS and I keep hoping that it was something added later in the dev cycle and my problems will be solved.

Princeton students get free tunes that won't play on iPods

Must be a slow news day since Ruckus has been making these kinds of deals for over a year now. As an example, I've been using Ruckus at the University of Toledo since the Spring semester and while it doesn't work with Macs or my iPod, it does provide a decent source for music while I'm at work.

Apple "genius" speaks out

Dec 8th 2006 4:35PM (TUAW.com)
Wow. I worked at one of the first Apple Retail Stores during the first two years of their existence, before I decided to go back to school, and I can say that I have never encountered an employee so arrogant and condescending as this one. In fact, the people who worked in my store were some of the nicest, most enthusiastic and creative people I've ever worked with and quite the opposite of what I see lately.

My perspective may be slightly skewed, but it seems that the Apple Retail Store experience is becoming worse every time I walk into one and the employees are progressively turning into elitist pricks... and no, I don't ever mention how long I've used Macs or that I used to work for Apple Retail when visiting. For me it's get in, check out the latest and greatest, and hopefully leave without having to deal with the employees. How is it even possible that someone was hired as a Mac Genius despite the fact that they don't even own a Mac? I knew that cronyism was starting to become a problem in the stores, but that's ridiculous.

Apple's retail training program was based on principles from luxury hotels and other service industries that stressed customer service and problem solving above all. To me, it seems like they've all forgotten that and the management they hired away from The GAP and other generic retailers have managed to run things into the ground. Stories like this sadden me, but I suppose they also make me thankful that I left when I did because otherwise my fond memories would probably be severely tainted. I agree that anyone that empathize with this "Mac Genius", seriously needs to grow-up and reconsider their career choices.

Wii component cables are retail-bound

Nov 6th 2006 2:50PM (Joystiq)
I still think they should have included HDMI even if the Wii won't support anything higher than 480p. Nintendo touts the simplicity of the Wii and there's nothing more simple than an HDMI connector that carries both audio and video in a single connector. Guess I'll have to keep waiting for the day I can have all my A/V devices connected in a nice, clean digital system without the cable clutter and complications of antiquated analog cables...

Apple wants your mommy to control WoW

Aug 15th 2006 7:08AM (Joystiq)
For those of you saying that Apple is copying functionality from MS, it might be worth noting that Apple has had some form of parental control in previous versions of the Mac OS and that this is simply adding more granular control and some additional features to improve the functionality...it's called developing and evolving your product. Please know what you're talking about before you spread the FUD.
