I played the PC demo, and while the frame rate was fine, the textures were ugly on it as well. It's worse when there's high res character models with low quality world textures making everything look messy. I don't doubt the game will be amazing, but i wished it looked better.

Except DS games work on the 3DS. Nobody's asking for PS1 or PS2 games for free, just what's available from the last generation.

The support of the previous gen has always been an option for new hardware adopters to allow them to have a line up ready to go at launch. It's not required, but it makes the system more attractive. Knowing that i could play GBA games on my DS was nice. Same with PS1 games on PS2, GB games on GBA, etc.

I don't know if it's as necessary to have this feature, since consoles and handheld do far more out of the box than before, and there's also easy access to demos and various downloadable games.

You can't really tell from the PR, because you never really know if they're trying to downplay the rumors. Right now, it's in Microsoft's best interest to play the "extending the lifespan" card to quell the rumors of a new console so they can keep the attention on the 360. I'd say there's still a chance we'll hear something at one of the shows this year.
