Activision digital revenue up to $1.7 billion

Sep 1st 2011 3:04PM (Joystiq)
@nightripper

The cost really isn't the issue, it's about the content that comes with the cost. $15 for a pack consisting of 5 maps? That's a good deal. It's not about the price, it's about the content that the price is attached to.

Now, if they raise the price to $20 and keep it at 4-5 maps per pack, there is a problem. But if they raise the price to $20 and give it 7-8 maps, the value is still there.

Gears of War 3's 'Dust to Dust' trailer is a twangy recap of games past

And your point is?

Gears of War 3's 'Dust to Dust' trailer is a twangy recap of games past

These trailers are so beautifully done. It amazes me just how much emotion they put behind these trailers. At no point do they make these characters out to be these badass, nothing can touch us, we are gonna wreck everything, super soldiers. They seem to bring the characters down to a more personal and emotional level. They look tired, they look desperate, they look like they are doing everything possible to just live for one more breath...and even then sometimes they look like they've given up hope (Marcus at the end of Mad World trailer, Dom at the middle of Ashes to Ashes trailer).

Gears of War 3 gets $30 'season pass,' first DLC in November

@Red Runner

You bitch about DLC then have the nerve to list games like Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Halo: CE Anniversary, and the MGS HD Collection? Are you kidding me? Let me break this down for you...

Arkham City: This is a game that is already CONFIRMED to have future DLC Episodes, probably something that will be supported for a year or two after the game launches at MINIMUM. Do you want to pull out the bullshit argument that they are holding all that content from the actual disc just to nickel and dime customers? Same situation, promising content without revealing the details yet. Lets check that off your list.

Uncharted 3: This game is going to get new DLC maps, it's going to happen and don't think it won't.

Halo: CE Anniversary: It's an old game (10 years) with a facelift...and it's essentially an EXPANSION PACK for Reach.

MGS HD Collection: You are buying repackaged games that have been out for years...How on earth is this not considered the same thing as trying to squeeze every penny out of the customer? It's that same crap that is done with DVD's.

You are no moral crusader, you are just looking for an excuse to bitch and moan about nothing...and yet you can't even stand by your statements. Hypocrisy makes everything you have written worthless.

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is welcoming the new crew

Decent week, had to go with Dueling Analogs, best of the bunch (though the Awkward Zombie one was a close second.

Still trying to figure out why Fanboys still doesn't make the cut some weeks, especially now that it's actually updated. Friday's update was a pretty damn funny TF2 comic.

Report: King of Kong director bringing back WarGames

@PR0F3TA, Obviously you've never seen Fanfiction then...these people just have the money to do something with it.

@Meekermoloko, I'd have to disagree with you in saying that Hollywood doesn't want to take risks. Hollywood does lack any creative ability, further more they are willing to shell out hundreds of millions of dollars on projects that could flop, ($300 budget on Green Lantern, you can't tell me that isn't a massive risk).

Meanwhile you do have Indie movies that are released (so many of them limited sadly) that are willing to take risks in creating a well crafted film for a fraction of the cost, which if properly advertised could easily rack in massive profits due to low budget. As an example I'll use the trailer for the upcoming movie Another Earth. The concept behind the movie is relatively simple, but it's not something you would ever see Hollywood trying to attempt.

Halo 4 finishes the fight (again) in 2012 [Update: teaser trailer!]

@maveric101

When it comes to the story element, the books have always been superior to the game. And it is a subject that can be covered in the books. Why exactly do we need the Chief anyways? What is he gonna do? He's gonna be on a new world, alone, with no support and nobody back-up on the way.

The legendary ending felt like an idea of what may be in the future of the universe, but not one that requires the Chief as a focal point. The idea of his battle being over was satisfying. Leave the new battle to others.

@blackangel209

Absolutely. Every little detail doesn't need to be worked out. And having the Chief out there in Cryo Sleep now that his story was over was a satisafying end, regardless of that short addition on the Legendary ending. Plus, that was the kind of thing that could have easily been covered through one of the upcoming Halo books by Karen Traviss. No need for a game.

@nonnie

At least they could have had the decency to leave behind the Chief. Could have explored the Halo universe without him.
