AbleGamers launches reviews with accessibility in mind

Nov 23rd 2009 7:43PM (Joystiq)
As a male suffering from red/green/brown colorblindness, I have to say video games aren't the issue that needs to be addressed for those with my disability: laser tag is far worse. Why did they make the sides red and green? I hate having to walk up to people and ask "Are you on my team" and waiting for them to shoot me.

Joyswag: Call of Booty: Prestige Edition

While driving home from getting baked at a friend's house, it was all foggy and dark and I kept saying to myself "please don't hit any aliens."

I like to wear my "So Much Porn, So Little Time" shirt to remind me of all the things I am missing.

The Daily Grind: The one that got away

Oct 15th 2009 3:09PM (Massively)
While playing WAR, Destruction on Phoenix Throne had just invaded Altdorf. I was having fun running around, killing Order, trying to figure out just what the hell you are supposed to do there. About that time my IRL friend started bitching to me over Skype how we weren't playing together, and to throw him a bone I decided to leave the scenario and help him farm the 1000 Living Armors we needed for a tome tactic unlock. Farming those guys was a lot of fun and I ended up getting some really nice weapons and even dyes out of the deal.

On my way back to IC, the game had my character reload from the most recent save spot: coming out of Altdorf. I lost all those kills, all those items and all that gold I had collected over the last 2 hours in that moment. That was the beginning of the end for me and WAR.

WAR producer's letter details major 1.3.1 changes and lays out plan for near future

Aug 18th 2009 2:23PM (Massively)
1) Whenever a patch comes out, no matter what game, people complain. "Oh noes, they nerfed my Warlock again!" comes to mind. People both revile and love change. Which makes it fitting that Tzeentch is the Chaos god for WAR.

2) DrewIW brings up a good point: a lot of people on here are broken records for making fun of WAR and that's all the contribute. Go to any WAR thread and Bilbo will be there, with the same "lol" drek.

3) Yes, generikb. It would make the game far better if you gave warband leaders in ORVR the option to turn on rally calls for their zone. Or if maps actually depicted what was being attacked or assaulted.

4) Jerm, I'm glad you are trying to defend the game, but at the same time, you aren't really selling it. "You can run with a zerg in orvr" - this is actually one of the reasons a lot of people stopped playing the game. They wanted a game where a small, highly coordinated group of players could have an impact. Now there are instances of this happening, but more often its zerg vs zerg, which gets really tedious.

I also agree that I did have more fun in pvp on WAR than ever in WoW, including when we used to close down Ratchet in the name of the Horde. But we need more diversity. They need to incorporate some of the scenario objectives into ORVR. Ring Around the BOs gets boring, and heaven forbid you have multiple warbands taking over different BOs at the same time. Everyone flips out over the lost INF and RP.

5) Ultimately WAR has had a positive impact on MMOs in general. If this was not the case, WoW and subsequent games wouldn't have copied certain design elements. It is still a flawed game, but I had fun, and I look forward to better games because of it.

Mythic responds to negative Land of the Dead community poll

Jul 30th 2009 3:37PM (Massively)
Just addressing a few issues from someone who still plays WAR, although most of you said how I feel: The response pisses me off as a still loyal player; LotD was a huge failure, especially on my server, and I'd respect them if they admitted it. WotLK did not steal players who wanted RVR, especially with their "LOL, Plate Only" PVP lakes; the people who quit to play Aion and are complaining about how bad WAR is, will be on here in a few months doing the same with Aion; yes, polls are generally biased, but players are pissed at LotD;

Venekor hit it on the head. I'm still playing because two friends and I still enjoy the game, but none of us will stick with it once Diablo 3 or SW:tOR come out.

More server consolidations in WAR?

Jul 13th 2009 6:33PM (Massively)
I play on Phoenix Throne where Destro routinely is dominant, went on vacation for 2 weeks, and now Destro not only has low population, but is getting steamrolled. Two reasons I have heard: Land of the Dead really pissed a lot of hardcore RVR players off, and the lack of unity amongst Destro players, causing the leadership to disband and leave.

I enjoy WAR, but the drama and grind of the game really is getting to me. At this point I'm just waiting for Diablo 3 or SWTOR, whichever comes out first.

The Daily Grind: How do you pick character names?

Jun 3rd 2009 2:19PM (Massively)
If I'm on a regular server, I usually pick a name that I think will fit my character and is recognizable to my friends. My irl nickname is "Burnsy" so my WoW mage was named "Frostburnsy".

In WAR, I grabbed my trusty encyclopedia of northern & eastern European mythologies and pick a fitting name.
