Joyswag: Joystiq's Legendary Halo 3 Giveaway

Sep 25th 2007 2:50PM (Joystiq)
Gravemind! When fighting a hugh tentacled monster, anyone should know that if you aren't armed to the teeth with the latest and greatest weapons, you had better be equiped with a Japanese school girl outfit and some white panties if you even hope to make it through!

Analyst: Sony shakeup means no PS4 [update 1]

I really hope the PS3 doesn't have a 10 year life span, if that were the case with the N64 and PSone, we would still be playing those now...boring.

You are correct in that it would probably be boring. There is bound to be new advancements in graphic technology, cpu, and memory technology that one would hope would appear in a new system that can really bring those "Toy Story graphics" to the console.

But as with all things new, there is a lot of money tied up in R&D, software, marketing, and manufacturing to get a product out. So having an expected 10 lifespan in the hopes of recouping their investment isn't unreasonable. The PS2 has been going for quite some time and is definately profitable now.

I am looking forward to see what MS may come out with next, although it will be a few years from now. I think a 3 to 5 year lifecycle can be a good thing as long as you continue to support your other products. I still want a black Xbox 360 with HD DVD built in, but who knows what we'll see next

Analyst: Sony shakeup means no PS4 [update 1]

This doesn't mean that the Playstation will go the way of the Dodo. It just means that he believes there will not be another unit developed to replace the PS3. I'm certain with the current installed base, and the fact that the PS2 is almost pure profit by now, that the Playstation line will continue, but there may not be a PS4. Ken and company had already stated that they expected the PS3 to have a 10 year life span, so there's no real need for them to consider a new unit for several years anyway.

On the other hand, MS has already mentioned they are already working on the next Xbox and are looking at creating their own processor to help lower cost per unit production.

1600 MS Points for $4.99 w/Halo 3 purchase

Nov 27th 2006 7:53AM (Joystiq Xbox)
No reason not to order from Best Buy. Just do what I did when I pre-ordered Call of Duty 3 to get a free map-pack and 1600 MS Points for $4.99 a few weeks ago. I called the day the shipment arrived in stores and had them change my order to in store pickup. They will do it, and you get the deal and can pickup the game in store on the same day as everyone else.

Sony pleased as Punch with PS3 launch

Nov 22nd 2006 2:56PM (Joystiq)
So the $599 version outsold the cheaper version, I guess the fact that there were far more of the $599 version shipped than the cheaper version didn't have anything to do with that either.

PlayStation Store currency and parental control explained

One advantage that the "point" system has is the ability to purchase point cards at different prices. The average price for a 1600 point card is approximately $20 US. However I purchased 5 cards from Circuit City online for $12.99 each. In the last couple of days I managed to get 2 1600 point cards from Best Buy for $4.99 each. With Sony's "real money" wallet system, there will not be any discount purchases.
