Gamers can't have it both ways. We can't whine about sequelitis but at the same time cut the knees out from people who are creating truly creative, innovative games.
If you want indie creativity to flourish, you need to protect it when and where it happens. That's why the copyright system exists. ... but that system may not protect game IP sufficiently.
At what level is a publication "independent"? What is meaningful independence? If GameDaily were purchased by THQ (a games company), it'd probably be less independent than if it were purchased by AOLTW (a content company).
Being indie is not a guarantee of quality. Editorial quality has far more to do with the management and processes in place than it does with the percent ownership of various shareholders.
Why even play the part of pawns in this bullshit PR campaign? If the company wants to share the info, they'll share it. If you report on anything else, then you're playing into their marketing schemes.
