Carolina-Style Pulled Pork - Feast Your Eyes

Apr 7th 2010 2:07PM (Slashfood)
A greater truth has never been spoken! Properly smoked pork is already perfectly flavored, the vinegar and red pepper just enhance it (like salt & pepper). Other sauces with sugar, tomato, mustard, etc. just distort and hide the intricate flavors you spend all night and day creating.

Banning Bad Tippers - What Can I Get You Folks?

Stephanie, that is the point. The restaurant said upfront that the customer would need to accept and automatic gratuity added to the bill if she wished to be seated at that restaurant anymore. They only "kicked her out" because she refused to accept the automatic gratuity.

North Carolina Considers Inviting Dogs to Dinner

Feb 18th 2010 10:58AM (Slashfood)
I'm an animal lover (dog, cat, 2 rats) but the last thing I want to see while I'm eating at a restaurant is a dog copping a squat next to my table or giving a nice shake and watching thousands of dog hairs fly into the air and settle on my plate. I can already imagine the disasters when a dog sees a squirrel or pigeon and lunges after it, taking down a server, table, or patrons. Not to mention incessant barking or aggressive behavior from poorly trained/socialized dogs.

Whole Foods Offers Steeper Discounts to Leaner Employees

the 70%+ number is for obese and overweight, not just obese. Either way, it is still ridiculously high. I would rather see the company have metrics created by each person's physician to offer a realistic goal with meaningful impact. In other words, maybe someone needs to reduce fat (not weight), another women might need more lean muscle mass and bone health, another needs better cardio-vascular health. The problem is people focus way too much on BMI. The guy in the picture (http://www.hhof.com/graphfea/SCJ06_07b.jpg ) is Rod Brind'Amour, a hockey player in near perfect physical condition yet at 6'1" 205 lbs he has a BMI of 27 (well into the "Overweight" category). People need to look more at body fat %, blood levels, and cardio-vascular health, less at generalized numbers like BMI.

I'm a big guy (6'5" 250) but I am pretty healthy (eat very well, run 3x a week, hockey once a week, weights 2x a week) yet I'm seen as a health risk. I went from 220 as a freshmen in college (when I was in stellar shape) to 320 as a senior. I've almost lost it all though not because of some corporate incentive program but because I don't want to die 20 years before my wife.

7 great ways to get Windows 7 cheap (or even free!)

I wish people would stop going to MSDN Events for free stuff... some of us developers are actually there to learn something and get shut out when freebie-seekers take up all the slots.

'Top Chef Masters' Finale: A Trifecta of Tastes

Dammit! I had intentionally avoided opening any of the stories in my RSS feeds that I even thought might talk about Top Chef Masters and here its spoiled in the damn feed title itself. NOT COOL!

Sony VAIO NW unboxing and hands-on

Jul 27th 2009 11:21PM (Engadget)
I concur. Took my wife to a few stores and she loved the Vaio NW, nothing else was close. I ended up ordering the 130J/S model off NewEgg because it offered the best configuration (ATI HD4570 graphics card) without having to get the Blu-Ray (much like you, we have no need for it). The pricetag at NewEgg was $50 more than BestBuy ($849 vs. $799) but 2.5% NewEgg cashback from Bing and a 6.75% state sales tax for BestBuy meant buying the better configuration actually saved us $15.

I am thoroughly impressed with the laptop, especially given the price tag. My wife actually preferred the textured matte body because it didn't show smudges like the glossy bodies on HP, Dell, and others (she felt the same about the touchpad).

The Perfect Pork Tenderloin

Jul 19th 2009 12:27PM (Slashfood)
We've been using the 7-6-5 method for awhile now, and it turns out flawless pork tenderloin every time. Favorite recipes include a rub of fresh Italian herbs rub, a jerk rub, a fennel and coriander rub, and good ol' teriyaki.
