Delivery Man Publicly Shames Bad Tippers On Blog
May 7th 2011 2:42AM (Slashfood)Wrong. Europe is a very large geographical area consisting of dozens of countries and the customs vary a lot between, say, Spain, Germany and Finland.
Here in Finland tipping is generally not expected at all. Not in restaurants, not in a taxi (driving a taxi is easily a middle or even good income job here by the way), not in a pub, not at a hair dresser and so on. You can tip in a restaurant if you want, but you won't get grumpy looks if you don't.
Five Must-Buy Cheeses While in France - Cheese Course
Sep 7th 2010 1:03PM (Slashfood)French Brie de Meaux is certainly available in other European countries. I'm 99% sure I've bought it from a cheese counter here in Finland.
Parisian teenagers flash, steal cash
Aug 22nd 2010 3:39AM (Gadling)Be extra careful at ATMs as these "teenagers" can be really arrogant and downright aggressive, even in broad daylight. Sometimes they come in pairs of groups of three and start a hassle around you, trying to get your money, your card, your wallet, your phone, everything.
Samsung's 24-inch SyncMaster FX2490HD monitor doubles as 1080p television
Aug 4th 2010 10:14AM (Engadget)I'm not so sure about the anti-glare. Samsung is notorious when it comes to glossy displays. It could be that the glass frame covers the whole screen :(
I'm perfectly happy with my HP ZR24w, big matte non-TN display. There's no tuner though, but I don't need one.
HP's 30-inch ZR30w IPS LCD monitor reviewed: exceptional performance, reasonable price
Jul 28th 2010 9:47AM (Engadget)There is a 24" model too, ZR24w. It's matte and S-IPS too.
Pakistan Blocks Facebook After Muhammad Caricature Contest
May 19th 2010 4:20PM (Switched)Wouldn't you be enraged and ready to bomb everything too if somebody drew a caricature of, say, Jesus or Obama?
Steve Jobs publishes some 'thoughts on Flash'... many, many thoughts on Flash
Apr 29th 2010 10:39AM (Engadget)Steve: "We have routinely asked Adobe to show us Flash performing well on a mobile device, any mobile device, for a few years now. We have never seen it." "
Hey Steve, and all other people locked in the crippled iPhone world:
Get yourself a Nokia N900. Flash is just fine on it.
I'm sure the Flash experience will only get better with the future Maemo/Meego devices.
Gran Turismo 5 delayed in Japan, new date unknown
Jan 13th 2010 10:45AM (Joystiq)Or that the tire grooves on some cars were not 100% identical to the ones in real life?
The game would've been out a long time ago if it wasn't for Digital Polyphony's obsession of putting 869 "different" cars into the game. 50 DIFFERENT cars would be more than enough.
Not expecting much from GT5. It's going to look great, but online play will probably be absolutely horrible when compared to something like Forza 3.
Uganda: the latest not so gay-friendly destination
Dec 23rd 2009 10:55AM (Gadling)There are countries in Africa where more than one third of the adult population is HIV positive. Gays have very little, if anything, to do with the African AIDS epidemic and making homosexuality punishable by death will have zero effect on the spread of AIDS. Persecution of gays is very common in African cultures.
There is practically no way to curb the spreading of AIDS in Africa. Simply too many uneducated people, poor or non-existent women's rights and archaic religions (mainly Islam and some forms of Christianity) which prevent the use of condoms.
Anyone who travels to Africa should consider that potentially every people they meet is HIV positive and act accordingly.
