Senators urge phonemakers to ban DUI checkpoint apps, Blackberry first to comply

Mar 23rd 2011 8:25PM (Autoblog)
I think it's an embarrassment that these senators even have the time to consider something that should be at or near the absolute bottom of the totem pole of priorities for this country's legislature. The issue has nothing to do with deaths that result from drunk driving - it has to do with deaths resulting from a drunk driver causing an accident while avoiding a DUI checkpoint that he was notified of on his smartphone. The statistical insignificance of that possibility is probably in the ballpark of a monkey composing Macbeth. MADD and all of the other rabid reactionary gestapo groups in this country need to get real jobs and start doing something that will help turn around our massive debt, severe shortcomings in education and rampant unemployment.

Having watched the video, I will admit that if you drove a Quattroporte in that weather you would die a horrible, horrible death.

I get what you're trying to say there, Elmo, but calling this engine "stock" is a little unfair. Anyway, without that sweet sounding V10, I'd pass. Even with less power, I think a Quattroporte or an XFR would be more stirring. I'm really going to miss that engine.

That's a 904/6. Sounds almost exactly like my 2001 C4 from inside the cabin, actually. Hot, dirty aural sex. I love it.

Them Duke boys better grow some wings, or start flappin' their arms...

Seeing these two cars in the same picture only highlights in bold relief just how horrendously wrong Chrysler got this new car. It actually makes me physically ill to look at. What a bulbous, misshapen, disproportionate carbuncle of a vehicle.

Pics Aplenty: 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe [w/video]

Mar 14th 2011 11:33PM (Autoblog)
Yeah, I can't even repeat what we Porsche owners say about you guys...

Anyway, I think the 6 has finally come into its own on the exterior, but I'm really disappointed by what's going on in the cabin. I'd have a tough time feeling "special" sitting behind that wheel, and that's a big part of why you buy a gigantic luxury coupe. If you didn't want that, you'd get the sedan, right?

It seems like you get a decent big of bang for your buck (as much as you can in this segment) with the BMW, but if you're shopping on price at this level in the game you're probably leveraged to the hilt and one bad trading day away from ruin so put cost out of your mind and tell me that the CL or Granturismo aren't significantly more special, and even if you are counting beans, the XK or A5 are still going to get you more of what you're after. I don't know. It's a big improvement, but it's not enough.

Lamborghini Aventador leaked ahead of Geneva reveal?

Feb 22nd 2011 10:38PM (Autoblog)
I know I'm about to exile myself with this statement, but from this glimpse, which I recognize is not a complete picture of the entire car, I actually find the Murcielago a much more pleasing and purposeful design.

"Real" Lambo fans love the Countach for all of its excess and ballyhoo, and I understand and respect that, but for me the Murcielago represented their best-yet effort at a "serious" car (the Gallardo perhaps more appropriately fits this description now, but it's missing two very important cylinders). This new bull caters to that Countach-esque flamboyance.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 "spied" in the swirly en route to Geneva

My mother always taught me, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all," but I'm sorry, I can't resist... Ferrari, you are royally f'ed. Maybe there's little place left in this world for a balls-out, hairy-chested, panties-dropping beast like the Aventador will undoubtedly be, but a four-seat hatchback for 400 Gs? You brought a knife to a gunfight, kid. And I don't want to hear any BS about room for passengers. There will be exactly three people who ever ride in the back of an FF. I own a 911, which is a thousand times more practical and I rarely even put a grocery bag in its rear seats. Cars like these need exactly two occupants - you, and your supermodel girlfriend, and Lamborghini's got you covered.

Officially Official: 2012 BMW 1 Series coupe and convertible take a bow

I agree wholeheartedly. The convertible is considerably less abominable. I'd actually consider letting a lady-friend drive one. If she were particularly gifted in other respects, that is.

I paid less than either of these cost in bare-bones trim for a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 optioned to the hilt. That's something to think about.
