MS drops the banhammer on fake Live accounts

Nov 27th 2006 4:24PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Ah yes, wonderful. So all of us in countries that are not our place of origin, and perhaps not entirely familiar with the language will have to forfeit using a Live account from our home country.

More bothersome is patching, I import my games from England to Germany - there are a fair few games here that are banned for commercial sale, will this mean my gears of war gets no patches? Does it mean I cant play at all online? Probably not but this sounds awful.

Hey 'J Korn' no one else cares if YOU care what we can do either, you know.

Sony exec admits PSP more about media than games

Nov 7th 2006 9:24AM (Joystiq Playstation)
More and more I wish I bought a DS. I love my PS2, and the PSP is a stunning piece of kit BUT I BOUGHT IT FOR GAMES. Most people did, I'm sure.

I have other, better devices for music and there are other, better devices for video.

The PSP is inconvenient to carry around unless you have big fat guy pockets or tend to tote a bag everywhere, it's battery life is only just on the verge of acceptable so I end up having to take the power adapter everywhere which seriously diminishes my wish to take it anywhere at all. Now it is resident in my work locker where even on empty nights I cant be bothered to start playing my favourite game, Metal Gear AC!D 2 because the game is too involved for a portable device.

I have no intention of telling people what they like is wrong, but the PSP is a jack of all trades and not very good at any of them. I just hope this changes.

Is Gears of War as good as it gets?

"BMWM3P"

Seriously, your name there tells us near all we need to know about how valuable your comments are on this subject. A car? Really? Like to feel special much?

At least the PS3 will be all curvy and shiny!

Intel VIIV says "no, thank you" to DRM

Mar 17th 2006 11:27AM (Engadget)
People need to stop laying into intel, can't we just be decent and applaud their having said what they did? If true it's in our favour and against the parasitic ranks of RIAA and the like.

Intel, good one.

Thoughts on what the PS3 "shoulda been"

Mar 14th 2006 1:42PM (Joystiq)
If only all the people bitching about vertical console design would spend more time laying down in a box we'd probably be better off.

I find the current PS3 design to be hideous, but if I end up buying one of them I'll just hide it behind a printout of the old PS2 or some such - who cares?

High pitched squeal defect on some MacBook Pros

Mar 13th 2006 5:14PM (TUAW.com)
My Powerbook G4 1.25 has been doing this for over a year, some (idiots) would insist to me it was a fan, it was and is not.

What I narrowed it down to was some part of the logic board (capacitor?) that would emit a quiet, high pitch screeching noise when the CPU was running in high performance mode - not in full use just in high performance mode - whereas reduced performance mode would not do this. The odd upside to it is when set to automatic I can tell whether it is in high or reduced simply by the sound or lack of. No damage has been apparent in the months this has been going on.

Fuss over Sony PSP ads in the UK

Mar 9th 2006 2:58AM (Joystiq)
These adverts are essentially working. Well.

Right now a lot of people are debating the point behind certain adverts, adverts by Sony for PSP. We are all talking about the Sony PSP. That's advertising!

PSP2 to sport a built-in camera?

Feb 24th 2006 11:35PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I would _seriously_ appreciate it if Sony would just step up and say "No, we are not planning a new PSP any time soon." perhaps they just see rumour as being harmless, but the amount of people getting upset at the moment (I included) can not be good for them.

Disturbing "disruptive" PS2 ad

Feb 23rd 2006 3:46PM (Joystiq)
Google image search will yeild more god damn odd, and if I might add rather good images.

Sony to slap flash memory into new PSP this year?

Feb 21st 2006 1:17PM (Engadget)
As long as Sony do not drop us actual PSP owners in the cold I'll support whatever they wish to do. If they start making the current PSP a "low end" option so soon however I'll never buy Sony again. I intend to buy a PS3 but trust is a big issue.
