Demo-rama: Frontlines, Burnout Paradise samples are Live

Dec 13th 2007 12:11PM (Joystiq)
Oh, also - if you look at the "options", it seems that playing the Burnout demo opts you in to marketing from EA. You can change that from the options screen (hit Right on the D-pad to access the menu).

Demo-rama: Frontlines, Burnout Paradise samples are Live

Dec 13th 2007 11:52AM (Joystiq)
The Burnout demo is pretty good and really shows the potentials.

The only downsides are:

- The annoying "Crash FM" DJ is back. *sigh* Hopefully there is a way to turn him off in the retail game.

- No music in the demo. I'm hoping this is just because it's the demo. (I've been introduced to a bunch of great tunes from the other Burnout games and would hate for them to break that now. Of course, I could just whip up my own MS media playlist...)

- No more Traffic Checking. If you hit any car solidly enough, you'll crash.

- Only three events in the demo. (However, you can just cruise around and do stunts which is fun by itself.)

Also, this isn't really a downside, but the cars feel "heavier" now which makes takedowns more challenging. Once I got used to it, I was able to thrash my opponents pretty solidly.

Overall, I'm liking what I see. I just wish there was more to do in the demo. I can't wait for the full version!

Today in Joystiq: December 5, 2007

The phone number and address are for Shirley Roper, the "God Hates F**s" and "Thank God For Dead Soldiers" church patron who pickets dead soldiers funerals. You may want to refrain from calling - their insanity might be transmitted through the phone.

Off the Grid reviews Ticket to Ride

There is a PC version and an on-line version at Days of Wonder's site, so I doubt an XLBA version is coming. Too bad, too. This would rock on Live with other players.

Rock Band rejects PS3's Guitar Hero controller

Nov 20th 2007 11:34AM (Joystiq)
Um, next time Guitar Hero III loads, read that legal text that comes up. The last clause is a statement that you agree to only use guitars provided by Activision.

I think it's pretty crappy especially since Red Octane made their name originally by making unlicensed third-party controllers for other rhythm games. I guess they're too good for that now.

New Guitar Hero II DLC adds Trivium, Atreyu and Protest the Hero

Sep 19th 2007 10:08AM (Joystiq)
Am I the only one pissed that they still haven't released the original GH1 and GH:80s tracks via DLC? I sold my PS2 once GH2 for the 360 came out because they said the franchise was staying here and that they were back-porting their previously released content.

With the 80s Edition being a PS2 exclusive, there's even more music I'm missing out on. (Granted, the one song that I really wanted was "After Midnight" by Limozeen, but still - a bunch of those on the disc would have been fun to jam to.)

I'm almost ready to pick up a used PS2 on eBay as it seems that they will never release all of the original content as promised. The price didn't bother me, but I would even buy a full-priced GH1 or GH:80s disc if that would make this possible.

Come on, Activision! Show us the love!

Confirmed: RadioShack to start selling games in-store

Sep 18th 2007 11:53AM (Joystiq)
Why is Radio Shack even in business? Their branded electronics suck, their components are all bottom of barrel, and their staff wouldn't know Ohm's Law if it bit them on the ass. (In the day, you could actually get help on the stuff they sold.)

The company did try their hand at game and computer systems with their Computer City franchise. They overextended themselves and went out of business a couple of years ago.

I hate to see businesses go under, but I just can't see how they manage to keep going year after year.

Off the Grid reviews Chrononauts

Aug 23rd 2007 3:59PM (Joystiq)
This is one of the best card games ever! It was the first Looney Labs game I ever picked up and I was immediately hooked.

Inventor Andrew Looney also wrote a number of really interesting essays about the choices he made for the alternate histories: http://wunderland.com/LooneyLabs/Chrononauts/Mysteries.html

They also have some lesson plans for teachers who wish to use the game to teach history.

You can also combine this and the sequel (Early American Chrononauts) into one giant game of UberChrononauts!
