@LostToys Don't get me wrong - I'm not going to be running out and buying Blue Ray OR HD-DVD discs. Why? Because I have a 24" CRT TV, and no sound system. Plus, I'd rather pay $10-$15 for my movies.
Even if I did have the system, I couldn't justify almost double the price for extra clarity. They are the same movies, tv shows, etc. I grew up watching VHS videos and playing games on a regular old tv, and all that hi-def stuff is not going to change how much fun those things are. I mean, sure it looks better, but I'm not going to put months of paychecks towards a better tv set... that is ridiculous.
All the fanboys buy into all the PR drivel about how Blue Ray is going to revolutionize gaming, but Blue Ray is just a trojan horse, sent into your house so you won't buy the other brand and Sony will gain control of the movie / media industry... and start demanding huge prices for that stuff too.
"It's funny how many of these quotes are predicting that this is will cause the demise of the PS3. There is no way this will make any difference. Yes, it's trendy to hate Sony, but the PS3 will once again finish in the number one spot."
People said the same thinig about Sega right before theypulled out of the video games market, and they had a pretty firm grip on the market during the 16-bit days.
If you keep telling yourself that it'll be the best, it's not going to make it so. Sony's fumbling - why is that so hard to understand? Big companies make big mistakes now and then.
I do not think the P$3 is finishing #1 this time around... it's entereing the ball game too late, and at too great a price. Not enough people will get them, and 3rd party devs won't utilize it as much. It's hard to admit it, I know... but the truth hurts sometimes.
I hope that's the way it turns out anyway, because I'd rather not be stuck buying Blue-Ray discs for $30 - $40 a pop just to watch all the crappy movies Hollywood releases.
"Let's start the competition when all the players have shown up at the field."
What if one of the players keeps making excuses and never shows up to the field, or does, but awfully late? You can't just sit back and pretend like that doesn't matter, just because you don't want it to.
Why do you idiots get mad at Joystiq for this? All they are doing is reporting the stupid things $ony is doing. $ony is messing up your precious P$3, not Joystiq! LOL
Shouldn't they be here by now, yelling and screaming about how Joystiq has always been anti-Sony, this is all part of Sony's plan, things are really going okay, it's still going to be worth $600, etc?
Or have they finally been subdued by all the idiotic decisions and mistakes Sony has made since E3?
"The only problem is that the HDMI cable needed to do this won't be included with your $600 PS3. That means, according to prices on places like Amazon, you'll have to shell out an extra $40 or more for the needed HD hook up."
They've already stated that the price will be below or at $250, so there's no point in getting worked up about it not being released yet.
The big thing is the release date of the console, and they've got to drop that bomb soon... we're almost where it's forecasted to be, and they won't release it without telling people - their marketing team is working way too hard for a stunt like that.
