Sony stopped reporting shipped numbers years ago. pretty much all 3 console makers report sell-through numbers these days.

it's not really a subject of debate.

you can refuse to believe it if you want, but Sega outright acknowledged that the shift to the PSP was to offset the high production costs of the PS3 and try to make the series profitable.
the reason they gambled on continuing the series is they acknowledged the critical acclaim the first game got, but they lost money on it.

the opinion of "all the japanese gamers" was heavily exaggerated by westerners reading stuff written on sites like Sankaku by trolls (half of whom didn't know much themselves). the reality is the reaction to FFXIII was no worse than what EVERY final fantasy has gotten pretty much since VII.

Final Fantasy has always gotten mixed reviews online from the range of those who love anything that comes out to those that hate it just because FF is the popular kid in teh school yard and they think it makes them look cooler to hate the popular kid.

thats not fanboyism (for those of you that i can tell with my internet psychic powers are about to throw that blanket retort). thats the literal truth, FFXIII's consumer review scores were no worse than the FFs for the past 10 years, so what does that tell you about how much weight you should put into them? what does it tell you that FFXIII's average reviews on japanese sites have actually gone UP as time has past tell you bout that initial wave of negative reviews?

as for your claim that every other jrpg has outsold FFXIII, just get out of the room right now cause clearly you know nothing and are whipping things out of the air. no seriously, there's no point debating if you're going to just whip out blatant BS like that.
for the others around here wondering, there's been no other JRPG thats even broken 1 mil other than Monster Hunter this gen in japan, nevermind hit over 1.8 (last i checked). FFXIII so far is THE BEST selling jrpg in japan (most likely, worldwide also)

its pretty silly how some of you 360 fanboys are saying "the ps3 is maxed out! HAHAHA". it really just makes you look like an idiot. You know that the PS3 has games like Uncharted 2 coming out right? whether you think it looks better than any 360 game is irrelevant, IT LOOKS BETTER THAN GHOSTBUSTERS, so clearly this game isn't maxing out a damn thing. This is a case of a lower tier dev that has made what recently...BloodRayne? the Aeon Flux game? we're not talking about Epic...iD...anyone of that sort. We're talking about another dev that stuck their foot in their mouth while kicking up a hype cloud that was clearly well beyond their abilities to match. This game is frankly unlikely to blow anyone away on the 360. On the 360 AND the PS3, we have seen and are going to see far better than this. So do yourselves and favor and not sound as stupid, and stop kidding yourselves that this game is at all indicative of what the PS3 (or the 360 for that matter) can do.
