I'll quote what BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk said:
"Every MMO that comes out, I play and look at it. And if they break any of the WoW rules, in my book that's pretty dumb,"
The game itself is very generic, bland and boring, can't really have any strong opinion about it because it means nothing to the industry. What causes the hate is stuff like that.
The first step was taken though. I'm just surprised that it only took them 11 months to do that. WoW, for instance, only did it after losing a lot of subscribers 7 years after the launch(not defending WoW, just pointing out a fact).
The funny part is that the pirate version always include every possible DLC. Since I doubt many people will actually buy all of the extra stuff(action figures, books, etc), pirates will be playing a better version of the game than those who paid $60.
And each day my admiration for BioWare becomes closer to hate... not only their latest games weren't good, the people that work there are really full of themselves. Just admit your mistakes instead of trying to ignore them and boasting yourselves.
With exception of LotRO and DDO, I haven't played any F2P MMO for more than a few hours. Regarding P2P, I remember getting into the Rift beta and only playing for a couple of hours...
I was a fan of BioWare since the times of Baldur's Gate, but I keep hating them more and more nowadays. First with that statement from february that basically said "MMOs that don't copy WoW are bound to fail", then the massive piece of cr*p that was Dragon Age 2, now this complete lack of humility. Shameful.
Runic Games is being better than Blizzard(mods, no perma-online), but Diablo is obviously superior. Torchlight is more of a joke game, I just can't take it too seriously. That doesn't mean it won't be fun/good, but I want a more serious game and that has a plot(the first Torchlight didn't really have one), so I'll buy Diablo 3 on release and wait for TL2 to be on a Steam sale.
