Panasonic @ CEDIA - Blu-ray player

Sep 15th 2006 10:25PM (Engadget HD)
For that price, you could buy a solid pc system with a Bluray Drive, and it would have better quality output and usefull for more than just BD playback.
These players are far too overpriced for what they are. really.

IGN says PS3 aces 360 in Virtua Tennis

"
Besides when since as the system with the best graphics won a console war?

NES>>>>Master System (MS better graphics)
genisis>>>>>SNES (in US & Europe) (Snes better graphics)
Playtion>>>>N64 (tie Playstion won because of cd> cartridge)
Playstaion 2>>>Gamecube>>>Xbox (Xbox better graphics)"

I agree with you, but the Genesis did have better grahpics than the SNES. Its speedy 68k processor gave it the edge in arcade and action games, letting it run faster moving games with more action on screen.
The SNES did have higher resolution output of 512x448, but most games used the 256x224 resolution which was lower than the Genesis 320x240 resolution.
I may not be compeletly right though, and I think I have read that the SNES had better colors, static-image performance, etc.

DigiTimes: LCDs set to outsell plasmas in the 40-inch range year-end

Aug 19th 2006 5:35PM (Engadget HD)
ghostdoggy, i meant no offence. lcds are just weak performers in displaying finer details in dark scenes as opposed to other displays, and especially crts. and when the blacks are black, so is everything else(black crush it's called?). that's from my experience in spending time with the different sets, and that's seems to be the general consensus, too. plasmas from what i've seen are a bit better in that area over lcds, but they do have their own problems.

and critical viewing not the target goal of flat panels? they're supposed to give a great or superior picture, and that's what everyone assumes who are new to these sets. lcds do look great, especially when a good source is being fed in at the native resolution, but they are not perfect. they're always being refined, and that's a good thing. also, you can have great color accuracy and black performance out of a set in normal environments.
won't be as great as the hardcore setups, but more than good enough for most.

by the way, what lcd did you buy for that price?

image quality may be better on the plasmas, but the HD res plasmas(1366x768) are still pretty expensive. they are cheaper than same sized lcds, however.
also, when people see lcds at the store they see how bright they are over plasmas. most people don't care about color accuracy or black levels!

The state of DS homebrew (it rocks?)

Aug 15th 2006 4:18PM (Joystiq)
updating your firmware will save you battery life, though(or so i hear)!
i have the exact same setup, ds lite with m3 miniSD and flashme. pretty easy to flash your system, very user friendly.

also, to anyone that thinks it's all complicated, it's not! i recommend gbatemp.net for all infosfaqs.
