Equally misleading by being overly narrow though. But fair enough. I would have liked to see more categories as well instead of everyone being lumped together.

@xreadmore

Er, I don't know how to respond to that. Sorry the other kids were mean to you? But that shouldn't stop them from defining themselves how they want to do so.

My response got posted at the bottom instead. :l

If someone plays Angry Birds for 3 hours everyday and wants to count him/herself as a gamer, who are you to say no? Someone who plays only Angry Birds probably doesn't want to count him/herself as a gamer, but that's hardly the point. It's kind of a silly argument to have.

That being said, I would like to see the numbers broken down between mobile/social, handheld, and home gaming, because I think they tend to be used differently by a broader range of people and that would be a more useful set of statistics.

No, but I do know a lot of people who play on a console/PC pretty consistently, and wouldn't touch something like CoD with a ten foot pole (myself included).

It's misleading to count mobile/flash games in these studies, yeah, but it's equally misleading to only count CoD players to say that all gamers are teenage guys.

...Are Call of Duty players the only people who should be counted as gamers?

Yeah, the numbers would be more interesting if they split mobile/home gaming and broke it down by console.

I can't speak to PS3/XBox, but I can totally believe the rise in female/adult people who would be counted in the stats for the Wii at least. I have a lot of friends who bought it (either as a first time console or as an upgrade from an SNES) for first party Nintendo games.

@The Blank Mage Returns

Never had anyone change the channel on you mid-game, huh? That's the feature I'm most excited about. I can keep playing Zelda or whatever if I'm at home and my dad decides the TV is his and he is going to watch something.

@sonofman

That was my thought. I only need one of those for myself, and guests would probably be fine playing party games with the Wii remotes.

It looks interesting, although I have concerns about comfort.

If the Wii remotes are compatible with this, I'm not too concerned about price, because I'll probably only get one of these and use the Wii remotes for guests (who will only be interested in playing, like, Mario Kart or a sports mix or something with me... nothing that needs a new, giant controller).
